Dubai Municipality starts clamping down on dirty vehicles

Is your car dirty? Best to get it to a car wash immediately as the Dubai Municipality will issue you a fine of AED 500 if your car is dirty.

Dubai Municipality has urged residents of Dubai not to leave their vehicles unwashed for extended periods of time as “this type of uncivilised behaviour can tarnish the aesthetic appearance of the city.”

Abdul Majeed Abdul Aziz Al Saifaie, director of Dubai Municipality’s waste management department announced; “First, the vehicle will be identified whether it meets the conditions, such as obstructing the city’s cleanliness, and then a violation notice will be issued by putting a warning sticker on the vehicle.”

Once that sticker has been stuck to the motor vehicle, owners will have 15 days to clean the vehicle. If the owner does not clean the car in the time frame, the vehicle will be confiscated and moved to a scrap yard.

Once moved to the yard, if the driver still refuses to pay the fine, the vehicle will be auctioned off.

Note: The warning is for cars that are completely covered in dirt. If your car has dirt on the tyres and a light coating of dust, it shouldn’t be an issue.

Abu Dhabi has already implemented an identical system and has issued over 1,000 fines to motorists over the first five months of 2018. Abu Dhabi City Municipality fines are far higher and stricter than Dubai as owners have just three days to clean the vehicle or face the car being towed away and a fine of AED 3,000.
