Ford Celebrate National Mustang Day with a slew of announcements

This past week, Ford celebrated National Mustang Day (yes that’s a real thing), and with it, the iconic American Manufacturer announced details of the next generation Mustang.

Set to debut early next decade, not much is known about the pony car part from an all-wheel-drive system is in the works to rival the Dodge Challenger GT AWD which was launched last year.

Furthermore, Ford has already confirmed a plug-in hybrid Mustang is on the way. Reports suggest the model will arrive in time for the 2019 model year with Ford also claiming “it will deliver V8-like performance with more low-end torque.”

The next generation Mustang can wait

While it’s true we’ll have to wait a while for the new Mustang to arrive, Ford has been not-so-secretly working on the Mustang Shelby GT500. Having been teased a few times, Ford has confirmed it will benefit from a supercharged V8 producing an excess of 700 horsepower.

Exact figures remain a mystery, however, several publications have been informed the GT500 will exert ‘more’ power compared to the Dodge Challenger Hellcat which is rated at 707 horsepower. Although, it won’t be as powerful as the Challenger SRT Demon which is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 good for 840 hp and 1,044 Nm of torque.

Prior to all this, Ford also renewed the trademarks for Mach 1, Boss 302 and a few others. They also announced the return of the Cobra Jet.
