Jaguar E-Type returns with all-electric drivetrain

The spectacular Jaguar E-Type is back, but there’s no petrol power in sight. After successfully debuting in 2017 at the Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest “the most beautiful car in the world” is back with an all-electric drivetrain.

After additional attention at the recent UK Royal Wedding, Jaguar Classic have confirmed they will offer Jaguar E-Types that have been restored and converted to all-electric power. The door is also open to those who already own a petrol Jaguar E-Type as the classic diversion will offer EV conversions that are fully reversible.

Jaguar hasn’t revealed pricing or technical details regarding the E-Type EV, but they have confirmed deliveries will start mid-2020.

The concept pictured hides a 40 kWh battery underneath the bonnet and makes use of a single-speed reduction gear designed just for the all-electric E-Type and uses select components from the new Jaguar I-Pace. The new battery pack sits comfortably in place of the straight-six engine as it has the same dimensions and almost weighs the same.

As the new power unit sits precisely in the same place, Jaguar doesn’t have to move the brakes or suspension allowing for an easy conversion and retain the driving experience. In Jaguar’s own words it “drives, handles, rides and brakes like an original E-Type with front-rear weight distribution unchanged.”

The latest version of the Jaguar E-Type Zero concept, finished in a beautiful Bespoke Bronze made its debut at the recent The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering.
