McLaren 600LT Spider may arrive sooner rather than later

Earlier this year, McLaren unveiled the 600LT, but not a convertible version was spoken of. That is until now as reports have emerged that a McLaren 600LT Spider is indeed on the way and will arrive as a 2019 model.

Documents have surfaced from the California Air Resources Board. However, they don’t go into detail about the model although its safe to say it will be identical to the coupe bar the roof.

This would mean a twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 petrol engine will power the convertible version and will no doubt push out 592 horsepower and 619 Nm of torque. Power will travel to the rear wheels via a seven-speed sequential shift gearbox.

With the roof firmly attached, the 600LT launches from 0-100 km/h in under 3 seconds before hitting a top speed of 328 km/h.

The McLaren 600LT Spider will be slightly slower in a straight line due to the additional weight of the convertible roof, but it won’t be drastically slower.

With all that said, the 600LT is expected to weigh less compared to the 570S spider and will be more aerodynamic, tuned suspension and lightweight forged alloys wrapped in sticky performance rubber.

No exact date has been noted down as to when the Spider will arrive in showrooms as of writing nor has a price for the McLaren 600LT Spider. We expect the drop-top sports car to arrive in the GCC mid-to-late 2019 at a slightly higher price compared to its fixed-roof counterpart.
