New Audi A8 to ship with level 3 autonomous modes

The race for who can piece together a fully autonomous car continues to heat up. Currently, most are operating on level 2. However, the new Audi A8 will launch with level 3.

The main difference between the two levels is with the new Audi A8 shipping with level 3; drivers will be able to take their eyes off the road and do something that isn’t driving related while the vehicle drives itself.

Before you get too excited and think you can zip down Emirates Road at 110 km/h and the Audi A8 will steer itself, the system can move the vehicle at a max speed of 60 km/h. Perfect for navigating your way through Bur Dubai.

New Audi A8 level 3 autonomous systems will consist of 12 ultrasonic sensors, laser sensors and cameras. One such camera will be aimed towards the driver and will relay information to the vehicle’s computer if there are any issues and will pull the car over safely.

Tesla and Mercedes-Benz are currently operating on level 2 autonomous driving as is Ford and Volvo. The latter two though are pondering whether or not to jump straight to level 4 where the car can drive itself without human interaction in most situations.

Audi hasn’t stated when we’ll see the new A8 launch with level 3 autonomous. Seeing as there are a lot of auto manufacturers working on being number one in autonomous driving, expect the A8 to launch in the next year or so.

Until then, we’ve got new Audi A8 and used Audi A8 for sale in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Ajman.
