One-Off Bugatti Destrier Makes Public Debut At Monterey Car Week 2026

The Bugatti Destrier has made its first public appearance at Monterey Car Week 2026. The one-off hypercar was presented at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, following its digital debut earlier this month.

Destrier is the third creation from Bugatti’s ultra-exclusive Programme Solitaire, following the Brouillard and F.K.P. Hommage. Built for a single customer, it takes the extreme engineering of the track-only Bugatti Bolide and wraps it in completely new coachbuilt bodywork.

What Is The Bugatti Destrier?

The Destrier is a one-of-one Bugatti developed under Programme Solitaire. Its name comes from the powerful medieval warhorse known as the Destrier, which helped inspire the car’s stance and proportions.

Unlike the track-focused Bolide, the Destrier places greater emphasis on shape, craftsmanship and visual simplicity.

It uses the Bolide’s carbon-fibre monocoque and powertrain but removes much of the race car’s aggressive aerodynamic treatment. The result is a body just one metre tall, making it the lowest-silhouetted Bugatti to date.

The Destrier uses the complete W16 powertrain from the Bolide, representing the 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged engine at the peak of its development. Bugatti has not announced dedicated Destrier figures for torque, acceleration, top speed, weight or aerodynamic downforce.

How Is The Destrier Different From The Bugatti Bolide?

While the two cars share their basic engineering, the Destrier follows a very different design approach.

Its body does away with many of the Bolide’s large wings, vents and aerodynamic add-ons. Instead, Bugatti focused on smooth surfaces and dramatic proportions.

A hand-laser-engraved panel above the windscreen also depicts the historic Type 57G Tank and Type 57SC Atlantic, linking the project with Bugatti’s coachbuilding heritage.

How Does The Destrier Manage Aerodynamics?

Although the Destrier removes many of the Bolide’s obvious aerodynamic devices, functional aero elements remain integrated into its body. A front splitter sits low beneath the nose, while a rear diffuser manages airflow underneath the car. Both are among the few areas where exposed carbon fibre remains visible.

At the rear, Bugatti has blended the wing into the body rather than using the much more aggressive aero treatment seen on the Bolide. This gives the Destrier a cleaner silhouette while retaining elements needed to manage airflow around such an extreme shape.

What Is The Interior Like?

The cabin is considerably more luxurious than the stripped-out cockpit of the Bolide. Bugatti has used Ambre Voyageur leather and nubuck, combined with a specially developed 3D-knitted textile. Fine copper yarn is integrated into the material, creating subtle highlights throughout the cabin.

Hammered metal finishes appear on several areas, including:

• Door openers
• Air vents
• Steering wheel hub
• Entry plates

The hammered finish is also used in the engine bay and is inspired by the hand-beaten armour worn by medieval knights.

Where Did The Bugatti Destrier Make Its Public Debut?

Before its public unveiling, the Destrier was privately presented to its owner and family at Maison Bugatti in Pebble Beach. The car then joined a Bugatti Petit Tour along the Monterey Peninsula and Californian coastline, travelling from Spanish Bay towards Big Sur before returning to Pebble Beach.

Its first public appearance followed at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, where Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac and Design Director Frank Heyl introduced the car to collectors, media and guests. The Destrier was also prepared for display on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

What Is Bugatti Programme Solitaire?

Programme Solitaire is Bugatti’s modern interpretation of traditional coachbuilding. It sits above the company’s Sur Mesure personalisation programme and allows customers to commission completely unique Bugatti models using existing chassis and powertrains as their foundations.

Bugatti launched the programme in 2025 and plans to create a maximum of only two Solitaire projects per year, allowing extensive development and craftsmanship for each vehicle. The Destrier follows the Brouillard and F.K.P. Hommage, making it the third one-off produced through the programme.

Will The Bugatti Destrier Enter Production?

No. The Destrier was created for a single customer and carries a 1/1 designation, so there will only ever be one. Bugatti has also stated that type approval for the model has not yet been granted.

With the Destrier, Bugatti has taken one of its most extreme track-focused platforms and turned it into something very different. Rather than chasing lap times or maximum downforce, the one-off focuses on proportions, craftsmanship, and the coachbuilding tradition that has shaped Bugatti for more than a century.
