Next-gen Volkswagen Polo GTI spied

Recently, Volkswagen has been having a field day when it comes to testing their latest products. Whether it’s a seven-seater variant of the Tiguan, Passat CC or the all-new Polo GTI, the German brand is in full swing in regards to testing.

All three of the above have been spotted testing together making their way to the Nurburgring in a neat line because where else is there to test your machinery. Although it’s covered in pesky camouflage, its shape instantly screams Volkswagen. With a four-door setup, the sporty rims and twin tailpipes of a larger stature, this leads us to believe that a GTI version of the Polo is hiding underneath.

As it is covered from head to toe, you can expect minor changes all around and unique trim pieces.

Inside, rumours indicate a massive 9.5-inch screen will appear in the centre console and is to include Apple Carplay, Android Auto amongst other smartphone connectivity applications. This, of course, would lead to navigation, Bluetooth and other high-end options being made available in top trim, on top of interior quality improvements.

Power is to be drawn from a variety of engines in standard Polo’s including a turbocharged 1-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engine plus a few diesel options. Underneath the bonnet of the GTI is expected to be an enhanced version of the 1.8-litre TSI four-cylinder petrol motor rated at 189 horsepower.

Volkswagen engineers are also working hard on creating a “little big car” and are said to be working on the wheelbase extending it by 90mm for additional room.
