Rear-wheel drive Audi R8 V10 heading to Frankfurt

Audi’s flagship super car has always been available with their token Quattro system; only their GT racers are available in rear-wheel drive format. That’s all about to change this week with a two-wheel drive Audi R8 V10 teased just before this months largest motor show.

Said to wear the R8 V10 GT moniker, the model is expected to weigh in lighter compared to its all-wheel drive counterpart; thanks to various weight saving features and two-wheel drivetrain.

Teased via a video posted on Instagram, Audi’s latest offering doesn’t appear to have a rear spoiler bolted to the rear deck lid but is more than capable of doing a doughnut or two.

We expect Audi to offer rear-wheel drive versions of the R8 in ‘standard’ trim similar to that of their sister company Lamborghini and their rear-wheel drive Huracan.

The model will retain the powerful 5.2-litre V10. However, its output is unknown as its 0-100 km/h sprint time and top speed.

More than an Audi R8 V10 on show

Audi’s flagship super car won’t be their only model on show later this week. An Audi RS4 Avant is expected to be there as is an electronic and full-autonomous concept vehicle to wow the crowd.

In other Audi R8 V10 news, rumour has it the German brand is working on ‘halo’ car destined to launch sometime shortly with many sources indicating a 2020 launch is possible.

Dubicars.com has used Audi R8 for sale in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

Note: Audi R8 V10 rear-wheel drive model not shown.
