Two Suzuki Jimny concepts heading to 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon

The latest Suzuki Jimny has been a hot topic since it launched a few months ago around the world. Not only for its looks but for its rugged body-on-frame platform and four-wheel drive system.

But there’s a downside to the “cute” offroader; there’s only one variant. That could change next year as Suzuki is set to present two unique Jimny concepts at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon.

Suzuki Jimny Sierra

Starting with the pickup variant first, the rear seats and boot space has been removed to accommodate a small bed. External LED lights stick out above the roof while upfront, the Jimny Sierra gets a retro-inspired front grille. It also features “wooden” decals running along either side.

Suzuki Jimny Survive

The second of the two concepts is the Jimny Survive SUV. Designed for longer trips offroad, the Survive benefits from steel skid plates, off-road tyres, a raised ride height and an external roll cage which is also conveniently a roof rack.

As impressive as these two Suzuki Jimny concepts look, production for the two has yet to be confirmed. No word has been uttered about powertrains either. 2019 Suzuki Jimny’s for sale in the UAE use a 1.3-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder connected to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. Other markets have access to a 660-cc turbocharged inline-3 or a1.5-litre 4-cylinder.

More will be revealed on the 11th of January 2019 when the Tokyo Auto Salon kicks off.
