UAE’s first hydrogen refuelling station opens for business

Toyota’s premier dealership in the UAE has teamed up with France’s Air Liquide to unveil the UAE’s first hydrogen refuelling station that can be used by all fuel-cell electric vehicles.

There is a slight problem, there aren’t any hydrogen-powered cars for sale in the UAE at the moment. However with this new hydrogen refuelling station now open in the Emirate, there’s a high chance the Toyota Mirai and other fuel-cell vehicles from the likes of Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Honda will start surfacing around the Emirates.

Toyota Mirai models in the US start at AED 210,000 and can be imported and now fully filled! How long will it take to fully charge at the nearest hydrogen fuelling station? It takes less than five minutes and that will last you up to 500 km.

But how does the engine tick over without the use of petrol or electricity? We won’t dive into detailed specs as we’ll be here all night. Hydrogen mixes with oxygen and fuse together to create electricity which propels the vehicle forward and backwards.

And similar to that of fully-electric cars, hydrogen vehicles don’t emit any harmful chemicals into the atmosphere, instead, water spills out of the rear tailpipes.

So where is this hydrogen refuelling station?

You’ll find this station in Al Badia just next door to Dubai Festival City. As of writing, it is unknown how much it costs to refill a hydrogen fuel-cell car.

Dubicars.com has new cars and used cars for sale in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Ajman.
