Summary

This 2004 Jeep Wrangler Sport is a sought-after TJ generation model, featuring the legendary 4.0L inline-six engine paired with a manual transmission for total driver control. Its white exterior is a highly practical choice for the GCC, effectively reflecting the intense desert sun while maintaining a timeless look that holds its value. At 22 years old, this Jeep represents a mechanically simple era of off-roading where durability and ease of repair are the primary advantages for regional owners. It serves as an ideal platform for weekend desert adventures or a distinctive daily driver for those who appreciate a raw, analog connection to the road. For the GCC buyer, this regional spec ensures cooling systems and parts availability are well-supported across the UAE and the wider region.

This Car vs Other 2004 Wranglers

With 212,000 km over 22 years, this Jeep has averaged approximately 9,600 km per year, which is significantly lower than the typical GCC average of 20,000 km. In a market where high-mileage highway use is standard, this makes it an attractive mechanical prospect. The white exterior is a key advantage for resale in the UAE, consistently outperforming darker colors in both temperature management and market demand.

SPORT vs Lower Trims

The Sport trim is the sweet spot of the TJ range, featuring the robust 4.0L 6-cylinder engine that offers a significant power and torque upgrade over the 2.4L found in base SE models. It includes full-sized doors and a fold-and-tumble rear seat as standard, providing a more versatile interior for regional trips. Buyers prioritize this trim for its bulletproof powertrain, which is far better suited to the demands of desert driving than the smaller engine variants.

Wrangler vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Nissan Patrol Safari or the Toyota Land Cruiser 70-series, the Wrangler offers a much shorter wheelbase, resulting in a superior breakover angle for tight dune cresting. While its rivals excel at long-distance desert hauling, the Jeep's compact footprint makes it significantly more agile in technical off-road sections. It remains the only vehicle in its segment to offer a fully removable top and doors, providing an open-air experience that is central to the UAE's winter driving culture.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L engine is famous in the GCC for its 'million-mile' reputation, with parts being widely available and affordable at specialized garages across the UAE and Oman. Real-world fuel consumption reflects its mechanical nature, typically averaging 13-15 L/100km depending on how much time is spent in low-range. As a GCC spec model, it retains a higher resale premium than imported US versions, especially among collectors and enthusiasts who value the TJ's appreciating status.

Performance & Capability

The 190 hp inline-six engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, delivering linear torque that is essential for climbing dunes without losing momentum. With a standard ground clearance of 211 mm and a selectable low-range transfer case, this TJ is factory-ready for the sands of Liwa or the wadis of Hatta. Its 900 kg towing capacity also makes it a capable weekend workhorse for hauling light trailers or jet skis.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is focused on functional durability, featuring a four-seat layout with an upright dash that is easy to clean after a day in the sand. The air conditioning system in this GCC spec model is designed to handle local summer peaks, ensuring cabin comfort even in 45-degree heat. The manual gearbox and basic instrumentation provide a tactile driving experience that modern, screen-heavy SUVs simply cannot match.

Safety

Safety in this generation of Wrangler is focused on mechanical fundamentals, including standard multi-stage front airbags and a high-strength roll cage integrated into the body design. The Four Wheel Drive system provides essential stability on loose sand and gravel, while the ventilated front disc brakes ensure consistent stopping power during highway commutes between emirates.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec TJ is the perfect choice for the enthusiast seeking a durable, manual off-roader that is already becoming a modern classic in the local market.
