Summary

This 20-year-old Land Cruiser GX is a rare survivor, presenting with incredibly low mileage that makes it a prime candidate for collectors or dedicated off-roaders in the GCC. The 4.0L V6 and manual gearbox combination is highly sought after for its mechanical simplicity and direct control in deep sand. While blue is a distinctive choice compared to the common white or silver, it holds a unique appeal for those looking to stand out in a region where these SUVs are ubiquitous. This specific model provides the legendary 100-series durability without the complexity of air suspension, offering long-term reliability for remote desert expeditions. For a buyer in the UAE or Saudi Arabia, the combination of a GCC-spec cooling system and minimal wear on the drivetrain represents a significant ownership advantage.

This Car vs Other 2006 Land Cruisers

With just 27,000 km over 20 years, this vehicle has covered significantly less ground than the 400,000 km typical for a Land Cruiser of this vintage in the GCC. While the blue exterior is less common than white, it remains a respected color that resists the harshest UV fading better than darker hues. This extremely low usage ensures the interior plastics and mechanical seals remain in a condition rarely found on the market today.

GX vs Lower Trims

The GX trim serves as the robust gateway to the full-size Land Cruiser experience, offering essential off-road hardware like a sub-fuel tank and a reinforced body-on-frame chassis. Unlike more basic workhorse variants, it provides the convenience of power windows and central locking while avoiding the electronic complexities found in the VXR. This balance makes it the preferred choice for GCC enthusiasts who prioritize mechanical reliability in extreme heat.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Nissan Patrol Super Safari of the same era, the Land Cruiser leads in total fuel capacity with its factory dual-tank system, essential for long-range desert crossings. Its 4.0L 1GR-FE engine is widely regarded for better thermal management in stop-start summer traffic than contemporary American rivals. The widespread availability of parts from Muscat to Kuwait City ensures it remains easier to maintain than any European alternative.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel consumption for the 4.0L V6 typically averages around 14L/100km, influenced by the heavy-duty drivetrain and GCC air conditioning demands. Service intervals are recommended every 5,000 km for oil and filter changes given the dusty regional environment, with authorized centers available in every major city. This model year maintains exceptional value retention, often depreciating by less than 8% annually due to the cult status of the 100-series in the local used market.

Performance & Capability

The 200 hp V6 engine provides linear power delivery that is perfectly paired with the 5-speed manual transmission for precise throttle control on dunes. With a standard 220 mm ground clearance and a heavy-duty low-range transfer case, it is factory-ready for the most demanding terrain in the Empty Quarter or the Hajar Mountains. The robust 4WD system is built to handle the high-torque demands of towing or traversing soft sand without overheating.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout features a durable fabric interior designed to withstand the rigorous wear of family trips and desert sand. A key highlight for the GCC climate is the powerful air conditioning system with dedicated rear vents, ensuring all passengers stay cool during midday summer drives. The manual transmission and utilitarian dashboard layout prioritize ease of use and long-term durability over fragile luxury electronics.

Safety

Standard safety features include dual front airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) designed for both tarmac and loose surfaces. The heavy-duty ladder-frame chassis provides inherently better protection and impact absorption for off-road use compared to monocoque crossovers. For highway driving, the tall seating position and expansive glass area provide excellent visibility for navigating fast-moving multi-lane traffic.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity for a GCC enthusiast to own a 'time-capsule' Land Cruiser that offers the perfect mechanical specification for serious off-road use or long-term collection. Its unmatched low mileage and GCC pedigree make it one of the most reliable 4x4s currently available in the region.
