Summary

This Land Cruiser represents the high-water mark of the 200-series generation, pairing the range-topping 5.7L V8 engine with the prestigious VXR trim. As a GCC-spec model, it features the robust cooling systems and dual-tank capacity essential for reliable trans-emirate travel and off-road excursions. Silver is a highly practical choice for the region, offering excellent heat reflection and maintaining strong liquid resale value. With seating for eight and a legendary reputation for durability, this is an ideal family workhorse that balances daily road comfort with genuine desert capability. It remains a definitive choice for those who prioritize mechanical longevity over fleeting tech trends.

This Car vs Other 2017 Land Cruisers

At 185,000 km, this vehicle sits at an average mileage for a nine-year-old Land Cruiser in the GCC, where annual use typically ranges between 20,000 and 25,000 km. While many examples are used strictly as urban family haulers, the V8 powertrain is engineered for significantly higher lifespans, making this a mechanically sound entry point into the luxury SUV segment. The silver exterior is a strategic asset for the local market, resisting the visible effects of sun exposure and sand better than darker alternatives.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim is a significant step above the GXR, adding essential luxury and safety technology that GCC buyers value at resale. This includes the 14-speaker JBL synthesis audio system, a 360-degree camera suite for easier parking, and ventilated front seats that are a necessity during the Arabian summer. Furthermore, the VXR features advanced off-road hardware like the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), which improves both on-road stability and off-road wheel articulation.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

The Land Cruiser is frequently cross-shopped with the Nissan Patrol and the Lexus LX. While the Patrol offers a slightly more modern interior for the 2017 model year, the Land Cruiser leads in long-term value retention and the sheer density of its authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Its 138-litre dual fuel tank configuration provides a superior cruising range for long desert highway hauls compared to many European luxury SUVs in this segment.

Running Costs & Resale

The 5.7L V8 is a thirsty but reliable powertrain, averaging approximately 15.6 L/100km in combined GCC driving conditions. Service intervals are typically every 5,000 to 10,000 km, supported by the most extensive parts and service network in the region. Toyota's flagship SUV enjoys the lowest depreciation rate in the GCC market, often retaining significantly more of its value after a decade than its rivals. Parts are readily available in every major city from Abu Dhabi to Muscat, ensuring low long-term maintenance stress.

Performance & Capability

With 362 horsepower and 530 Nm of torque, the 5.7L V8 provides effortless overtaking power on high-speed highways like the E11. Its 3,500 kg braked towing capacity makes it one of the most capable haulers for boats or trailers in the region. Off-road, the combination of a low-range transfer case and Crawl Control allows it to navigate soft sand dunes with a level of confidence few other SUVs can match. The full-time all-wheel-drive system ensures maximum traction whether on rain-slicked city streets or loose gravel tracks.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for long-distance family comfort, featuring a three-row layout that genuinely accommodates eight passengers. The high-output GCC-spec air conditioning system includes dedicated rear vents and controls to ensure every row remains cool even in 50-degree heat. Wood-grain accents and leather upholstery provide a premium feel, while the integrated refrigerator in the center console is a quintessential feature for keeping beverages cold during regional road trips.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive on the VXR trim, featuring a suite of active systems including Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection. The vehicle is equipped with 10 airbags and advanced stability control systems that are specifically tuned to handle the high center of gravity during emergency maneuvers. Adaptive Cruise Control is also standard, making long desert highway drives significantly less fatiguing for the driver.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer seeking a blend of high-trim luxury and bulletproof reliability, this V8 VXR is a sensible investment that will hold its value long after rivals have faded. It is perfectly suited for a large family that demands a vehicle capable of transitioning from city errands to desert weekend adventures without compromise.
