Summary

This Toyota Prado is a quintessential example of why Japanese SUVs dominate the UAE used market. With a silver exterior that perfectly handles the desert sun and a remarkably low mileage of just 130,450 km for its age, it represents a durable entry point into 4x4 ownership. Unlike modern crossovers, this body-on-frame SUV offers genuine off-road hardware while providing a reliable daily commute. For a GCC buyer, the primary draw here is the legendary parts availability and the 2.7L engine’s reputation for simple, cost-effective maintenance.

This Car vs Other 2008 Prados

While many 2008 models in the region have exceeded the 250,000 km mark, this example sits at a conservative 130,450 km, representing significantly lower-than-average wear for its model year. The silver paint is the most practical choice for the GCC, offering the highest heat reflection and strong resale demand. It remains a mechanically honest vehicle that has avoided the high-mileage fatigue common in the local market.

GX vs Lower Trims

The GX trim serves as a robust mid-step that provides essential utility and comfort over base work-spec variants. It includes 17-inch alloy wheels and body-colored trim that give it a more refined look on the road compared to steel-wheel entry models. Inside, the addition of a dual-zone air conditioning system is a critical upgrade for the GCC, ensuring rear passengers remain cool during summer drives.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

The Prado consistently leads competitors like the Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Pathfinder in resale value and serviceability across all seven Emirates. While the Pajero might offer more on-road agility, the Prado’s superior ground clearance and body-on-frame durability make it more capable of frequent desert excursions. Its cooling system is also widely regarded as the most efficient in its class for extreme heat.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel consumption for the 2.7L powertrain typically averages between 12 and 14 L/100km in combined GCC driving conditions. Service intervals are recommended every 5,000 km for minor oil changes to combat high temperatures and dust, with major services at 20,000 km. It boasts one of the lowest annual depreciation rates in the region, often holding its value better than luxury European SUVs twice its original price.

Performance & Capability

The 175 hp output is focused on low-end torque rather than top-end speed, making it exceptionally reliable for slow-speed crawling in sand or gravel. Equipped with a true low-range transfer case, this SUV is capable of tackling dunes that would stop most modern crossovers. On the highway, the 87-litre fuel tank provides a solid cruising range for long-distance trips between Dubai and Muscat or Abu Dhabi.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is versatile, featuring flat-folding rear rows that accommodate large family shopping trips or camping gear. High-output air conditioning with dedicated rear vents is a standard feature that makes it a comfortable sanctuary during the UAE's peak summer months. Cabin insulation is tuned for durability, with hard-wearing materials designed to resist the sun's UV rays over long-term ownership.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes dual front airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) designed for both tarmac and loose surfaces. Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) helps manage the vehicle's weight under heavy braking, while the high seating position provides excellent visibility in fast-moving highway traffic. It also features an engine immobiliser for added security.

The bottom line

This Prado is the ideal choice for a budget-conscious family or a first-time off-roader who values mechanical simplicity and the highest possible resale security in the GCC.
