Summary

This 2012 Honda Odyssey Touring represents one of the most practical family transporters in the GCC market, offering a high-spec cabin that still feels modern today. At 14 years old with 268,000 km, this vehicle’s mileage is typical for a long-distance highway runner in this region, where these vans are prized for cross-country reliability. The silver exterior is a top-tier resale color in the UAE, effectively hiding dust and maintaining its value better than darker shades. As the Touring trim, it offers a significant equipment jump over the base models, making it a sought-after choice for large families who prioritize comfort on long summer drives. Honda’s reputation for engine durability ensures this V6 remains a dependable workhorse for the school run or weekend trips to Oman.

This Car vs Other 2012 Odysseys

With 268,000 km on the odometer, this Odyssey has averaged roughly 19,000 km per year, which is slightly below the typical GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km for large family vehicles. This suggests a history of routine use rather than extreme commercial-style driving, a major advantage for long-term ownership. The silver finish is one of the most practical choices for the local climate, known for high demand and fast turnover in the used market.

TOURING vs Lower Trims

The Touring trim is a major upgrade over the EX and EX-L, most notably replacing the standard 5-speed automatic with a more refined 6-speed transmission for smoother highway cruising. It adds premium features that GCC buyers value, such as 18-inch alloy wheels, an upgraded audio system, and integrated sunshades for the rear rows. Additionally, it includes memory settings for the driver's seat and side mirrors, providing a more executive feel than the entry-level trims.

Odyssey vs Segment Rivals

The Odyssey is frequently cross-shopped with the Toyota Previa and Chrysler Grand Voyager in the UAE. It leads the segment with its 'Lightning Bolt' beltline design that significantly improves visibility for third-row passengers, a detail often missed by its rivals. Its i-VTEC V6 engine provides a more car-like driving experience than the Previa, while its overall reliability record in high-heat conditions generally surpasses that of the Grand Voyager.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this V6 powertrain typically averages around 10.5 L/100km in mixed GCC driving, though it is remarkably efficient on long desert highways thanks to Variable Cylinder Management (VCM). Honda’s authorized service network is exceptionally strong across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring parts are always available and affordable. The Odyssey retains its value better than most American or European minivans, typically seeing a slower annual depreciation rate of approximately 10-12%.

Performance & Capability

The 248 hp 3.5L V6 engine allows for confident highway overtaking, even when the vehicle is fully loaded with eight passengers and luggage. The Touring-specific 6-speed automatic transmission helps keep the engine in its power band while maintaining lower RPMs during high-speed cruises between emirates. With a car-based platform and independent multi-link rear suspension, it handles with a level of agility that is rare for a vehicle of this size.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed specifically for large family logistics, featuring eight seats and a highly flexible 'Wide Mode' second row that can fit three child seats side-by-side. The GCC-spec air conditioning is famously powerful, utilizing rear-seat climate zones and dedicated vents to keep all three rows cool during the peak of summer. Acoustic windshield glass and extra insulation make the Touring cabin noticeably quieter than lower trims, essential for long-distance family comfort.

Safety

This Odyssey comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite, including six airbags and Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, which is designed to protect occupants in multi-vehicle collisions. Standard stability control and traction control provide essential peace of mind on sandy or rain-slicked GCC roads. The inclusion of a rearview camera and front/rear parking sensors on this trim makes navigating tight mall parking lots significantly safer.

The bottom line

For a growing family in the GCC, this Odyssey Touring offers the ideal blend of high-end features and legendary Honda durability at a fraction of the cost of a new model. It is a sensible, high-utility choice for those who need maximum space and proven regional performance.
