Summary

This 2012 Mercedes-Benz G500 represents a unique opportunity to own a preserved example of the legendary W463 generation, featuring the sought-after naturally aspirated 5.5L V8. Finished in a classic Grey, this Japanese-spec SUV has covered 145,000 km, which is significantly below the typical usage for a vehicle of this age in the GCC. While the Japanese specification offers a high standard of cabin electronics and interior preservation, it remains mechanically identical to local versions, ensuring ease of maintenance in the region. The G-Wagon’s timeless design and mechanical robustness make it an elite choice for those who value status alongside genuine off-road heritage. It is a dual-purpose icon that handles Dubai’s city streets with presence while possessing the hardware to conquer any desert terrain.

This Car vs Other 2012 G500s

With 145,000 km on the odometer, this G500 has been driven approximately 12,000 km per year, which is significantly lower than the GCC average of 20,000 km for large SUVs. This mileage advantage, combined with its Japanese origin, often translates to a better-preserved interior and underbody compared to high-mileage local examples. The Grey exterior is a neutral, high-demand color in the UAE market, supporting strong resale stability.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

As the primary V8 variant for 2012, the G500 includes the high-output 5.5L engine and the 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission as standard. It features the essential triple-locking differential system that defines the G-Class, a mechanical setup rarely found in rival SUVs. The cabin is equipped with premium leather, a sunroof, and the COMAND infotainment system, providing a luxury experience that exceeds basic utility trims.

G500 vs Segment Rivals

The G500 competes primarily with the Toyota Land Cruiser VXR and the Range Rover Vogue. While the Land Cruiser offers reliability, the G500 provides a far more prestigious image and a distinct mechanical advantage with its front, center, and rear locking differentials. Its vertical greenhouse also offers superior visibility and headroom compared to the more aerodynamic profiles of modern luxury crossovers.

Running Costs & Resale

The naturally aspirated V8 is known for its longevity, with typical service intervals of 15,000 km across the GCC's extensive Mercedes-Benz network. While fuel consumption reflects the vehicle's boxy aerodynamics—averaging around 14.9 L/100km—its legendary status ensures some of the best value retention in the luxury SUV segment. G-Wagons historically depreciate slower than equivalent luxury sedans due to their consistent demand in the second-hand market.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 388 hp V8, the G500 reaches 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds, offering surprising highway overtaking power for a vehicle of its stature. Its off-road capability is world-class, featuring a body-on-frame chassis and 210 mm of ground clearance. The ability to lock all three differentials makes it one of the few vehicles capable of navigating soft desert sand and steep dunes with absolute confidence.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior features a high-seating position that provides a commanding view of the road, essential for heavy GCC traffic. The dual-zone climate control is engineered to handle extreme temperatures, ensuring rapid cabin cooling during peak summer months. Despite its rugged exterior, the cabin is finished in high-quality leather and wood trim, offering a refined environment for long-distance travel between emirates.

Safety

Standard safety features include Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and 4-ETS traction logic, which are vital for maintaining control on sandy or gravel-strewn road shoulders. It is equipped with multiple airbags and high-performance brakes with ABS and Brake Assist. The heavy-duty steel frame provides a high level of passive protection, making it one of the sturdiest vehicles on the road today.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the classic G-Wagon silhouette without the complexity of a turbo engine, this low-mileage 5.5L V8 is the perfect balance of prestige and proven mechanical durability.
