Ford Expedition XLT Seven seats, number 2, Gulf

Highlights

• 4,082 kg maximum braked towing capacity
• 106-litre fuel tank standard
• Naturally aspirated 5.4L V8 engine

Summary

This 13-year-old Ford Expedition XLT is a quintessential GCC family workhorse, offering a rare combination of 8-passenger seating and a heavy-duty towing capacity that rivals modern counterparts. The silver exterior is a high-demand, heat-reflective choice in the region, ensuring better resale stability and cabin temperature management compared to darker tones. With 136,000 km, this vehicle has been driven significantly less than the typical 260,000+ km expected for a car of this age in the GCC market, representing a distinct longevity advantage. While rivals have moved toward smaller turbocharged engines, this model’s naturally aspirated V8 provides the mechanical simplicity and low-end torque favored for long desert highway hauls. It remains one of the most cost-effective ways to transport a large family across borders in complete comfort.

This Car vs Other 2013 Ford Expeditions

With only 136,000 km on the odometer, this Expedition has averaged approximately 10,400 km per year, which is less than half the GCC annual average of 25,000 km. While many 2013 models in the market show heavy wear from high-mileage commuting between emirates, this example represents a lower-usage opportunity. The silver finish is one of the most resilient colors for the local climate, showing less dust and retaining its luster better than darker alternatives under the intense sun.

XLT vs Lower Trims

The XLT trim provides a significant step up from the base XL, most notably adding the SYNC voice-activated communications and entertainment system which is essential for hands-free safety on fast-moving UAE highways. It also features a power-adjustable driver's seat and fog lamps that improve visibility during seasonal dust storms. Crucially for GCC families, the XLT includes the upgraded interior trim and additional power points compared to the more utilitarian fleet-focused XL.

Expedition vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Chevrolet Tahoe and Nissan Armada of the same era, the Expedition leads with its class-leading 4,082 kg towing capacity when properly equipped. Its independent rear suspension provides a flatter load floor and superior third-row legroom, making it more comfortable for eight adults than the Tahoe’s live-axle setup. The massive 106-litre fuel tank also provides a significant range advantage for non-stop drives from Dubai to Muscat or Riyadh.

Running Costs & Resale

The 5.4L V8 is a proven powertrain with an extensive service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring parts are affordable and widely available. While real-world fuel consumption averages around 14.1 L/100km combined, the engine is designed to run efficiently on standard 91-octane petrol. Resale value for GCC-spec Expeditions remains stable due to high demand for affordable 8-seaters, typically depreciating at a slower rate than European luxury SUVs in the same age bracket.

Performance & Capability

Generating 310 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque, the 5.4L Triton V8 is built for steady, reliable power rather than outright speed. The All-Wheel Drive system provides essential traction on gravel tracks and loose sand, while the 6-speed automatic transmission is geared for smooth highway cruising. With 222 mm of ground clearance, it easily handles high curbs and moderate off-road terrain during weekend family outings.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the GCC summer, featuring a high-output air conditioning system with dedicated vents for all three rows of passengers. The 8-seat configuration is highly flexible, with the third row offering genuine adult-sized legroom that many crossovers cannot match. Deep-tinted privacy glass is standard, providing a critical barrier against solar heat gain during peak afternoon driving.

Safety

Safety is managed by Ford's AdvanceTrac system with Roll Stability Control (RSC), a vital feature for maintaining composure during sudden maneuvers on high-speed desert roads. The vehicle is equipped with dual-stage front airbags, front-seat side airbags, and three-row Safety Canopy side-curtain airbags. Standard SOS Post-Crash Alert and tire pressure monitoring provide additional peace of mind for long-distance family travel.

The bottom line

For the large family needing maximum seating and heavy towing capability without the premium price of a newer model, this low-mileage GCC-spec Expedition is a rare and sensible find.
