Toyota Prado TX-L

• 410 Nm of torque

Summary

This 2013 Toyota Prado TX-L stands out as a rare diesel-powered variant in the GCC, offering exceptional fuel range and low-end torque for both highway cruising and desert excursions. With only 55,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven significantly less than the typical 220,000+ km expected for a model of this age in the region. The black exterior is a high-demand choice for resale in the local market, maintaining a sophisticated look that holds its value well. As a mid-tier TX-L trim, it balances rugged utility with essential family comforts, making it a reliable workhorse for those prioritizing durability. The combination of Toyota’s legendary reliability and a fuel-efficient diesel powertrain makes this a highly practical investment for long-term ownership in the Gulf.

This Car vs Other 2013 Prados

While the average 2013 model in the UAE has typically covered over 200,000 km, this specific unit’s 55,000 km represents exceptionally low usage, effectively offering the mechanical life of a much newer vehicle. The black exterior remains one of the most liquid colors for resale in the GCC, providing a distinct advantage over niche shades. Additionally, the diesel powertrain is significantly rarer in the local used market compared to the standard petrol V6, appealing to buyers focused on long-distance efficiency.

TX-L vs Lower Trims

The TX-L trim adds essential convenience features over the base TX, including a standard seven-seat configuration that is vital for larger families in the region. Buyers also benefit from upgraded alloy wheels, a dedicated cool box in the center console for summer relief, and cruise control for comfortable travel on long inter-city highways. These additions make the TX-L the 'sweet spot' for resale, as local buyers specifically look for these comfort-oriented upgrades.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Pathfinder, the Prado leads with its superior resale value retention and a more robust body-on-frame construction suitable for frequent off-road use. Its 87-litre fuel tank provides a significant range advantage for cross-border trips or long desert drives where refueling stations are sparse. While rivals may offer more on-road tech, the Prado’s cooling system is widely regarded as one of the most effective for the extreme 45°C+ GCC summers.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.0L turbo diesel engine is optimized for high-torque efficiency, providing better highway fuel economy than its petrol counterparts during long-distance GCC drives. Toyota maintains the most extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring parts are affordable and readily available. Historically, the Prado depreciates at a slower rate than European competitors, typically losing only 8–10% of its value annually in the local market.

Performance & Capability

Delivering 410 Nm of torque, this diesel Prado provides the low-end grunt necessary for effortless overtaking on fast-moving highways and navigating soft sand. The full-time all-wheel-drive system and 220 mm of ground clearance ensure it is fully capable for weekend trips to the dunes or wadis. Its body-on-frame design offers the durability required to withstand the vibrations of corrugated desert tracks and high-heat environments over many years.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior features a practical three-row layout, accommodating seven passengers with dedicated rear air conditioning vents to ensure comfort during the hottest months. A factory-installed refrigerator in the center console is a standout feature for keeping beverages chilled during long family road trips across the Emirates. High-quality acoustic insulation helps keep the cabin quiet, shielding passengers from road noise during high-speed highway commutes.

Safety

Safety is managed by a suite of active and passive systems including dual front airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and Brake Assist for emergency stops. The inclusion of Stability Control and Traction Control provides essential aid when driving on loose gravel or sand. Additionally, the high seating position offers excellent visibility, which is particularly useful for navigating multi-lane highway traffic in major GCC cities.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a very low-mileage diesel Prado that perfectly balances fuel efficiency with Toyota’s bulletproof GCC-spec durability, making it the ideal choice for a buyer seeking a long-term family workhorse.
