Toyota Prado TX-L 2.7L V4 FACELIFT FOR EXPORT

Highlights

• 87-litre fuel tank standard
• Extensive GCC authorised service network
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This Prado is an exceptional find for buyers seeking a long-term family vehicle, having covered just 67,000 km in 10 years—significantly below the typical mileage for a car of this age in the GCC. The black exterior is a premier resale choice in the local market, offering a professional presence while holding its value better than unconventional colors. As a GCC-spec TX-L, it provides the essential hardware for both desert weekend trips and smooth highway commutes across the Emirates. The 2.7-litre engine is celebrated for its mechanical simplicity and ease of maintenance, making it one of the most cost-effective entry points into the Land Cruiser family. Ownership in this region is further simplified by the massive support network, ensuring parts and expert service are available in every corner of the Gulf.

This Car vs Other 2016 Prados

While the average 10-year-old SUV in the GCC often exceeds 200,000 km due to heavy highway use between cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, this example has covered just 67,000 km. This exceptionally low usage translates to significantly less wear on the suspension and powertrain, representing a 'time capsule' opportunity for a buyer. The black paint remains one of the most liquid colors for resale in the UAE, ensuring faster turnover and better price stability compared to non-standard shades.

TX-L vs Lower Trims

The TX-L trim adds several comfort and convenience features that GCC buyers prioritize over the base TX, including a sunroof and cruise control, which is essential for long stretches of desert highway. It also typically upgrades the interior with better materials and a multi-function steering wheel that cannot be easily retrofitted to lower trims. These factory additions make the TX-L a much more comfortable daily driver and a more attractive prospect when it comes time to resell.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Mitsubishi Pajero or Ford Explorer, the Prado leads in mechanical durability and regional cooling performance, with an air conditioning system specifically engineered for 50°C summer peaks. Its 87-litre fuel tank provides a superior touring range for cross-border trips, while the body-on-frame construction offers genuine off-road longevity that monocoque competitors cannot match. The sheer density of Toyota service centers across the GCC gives it a logistical advantage that no other brand can replicate.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7-litre engine typically ranges between 11.5 and 13.0 L/100km in mixed GCC conditions, depending on how much time is spent in stop-start city traffic. Service intervals are standard at 10,000 km or 6 months, and maintenance costs are among the lowest in the SUV segment due to the abundance of parts. The Prado is a regional resale champion, typically retaining 60-65% of its value even at the 5-year mark, far outperforming European rivals.

Performance & Capability

The 160 hp 2.7-litre engine is paired with a robust All-Wheel Drive system and a low-range transfer case, providing genuine capability for soft sand and gravel tracks. With a generous 215 mm ground clearance, it easily handles the high curbs and desert terrain found throughout the region. While it is tuned for reliability over raw speed, the 6-speed automatic transmission introduced for this model year ensures smooth shifts during long-distance highway cruising.

Comfort & Cabin

This 7-seater configuration is ideal for larger families, offering a flexible cabin layout with rear air conditioning vents that are vital for passenger comfort in the Gulf heat. The interior features acoustic glass and quality insulation to keep the cabin quiet and cool even during the peak of summer. The TX-L trim ensures that both the driver and passengers enjoy a refined environment with intuitive controls and ample legroom for all three rows.

Safety

Safety is a priority in the TX-L, featuring a comprehensive suite including Electronic Stability Control and Active Traction Control, which are particularly useful on sandy or rain-slicked roads. It comes standard with multiple airbags and ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution to ensure stable stopping power in fast-moving highway traffic. The inclusion of Hill Start Assist and Trailer Sway Control adds an extra layer of security for those planning to use the vehicle for weekend towing or mountain drives.

The bottom line

For a buyer seeking a reliable 7-seater with legendary resale value, this low-mileage GCC-spec Prado is the smartest long-term investment currently available in the market.
