Summary

This 2014 Ford Edge SEL is a high-mileage value workhorse that remains a highly relevant choice for GCC commuters thanks to its robust V6 powertrain and all-wheel-drive stability. At 12 years old, its mileage reflects a history of long-distance highway use, a duty for which the Edge was specifically engineered with its quiet cabin and soft suspension. The black exterior is a perennial favorite in the UAE market, aiding in future resale appeal compared to more niche colors. As a GCC-spec model, it benefits from a cooling system and interior materials designed to withstand the region's extreme summer temperatures. For the budget-conscious family or daily commuter, this Edge offers significant interior volume and proven mechanical durability at a fraction of the cost of a newer SUV.

This Car vs Other 2014 Edges

With 298,000 km, this vehicle has covered more distance than the typical GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km per year. While the mileage is high for a 12-year-old car, these engines are noted for their longevity when used primarily for cross-emirate highway commuting. The black exterior is a high-demand, strong resale color in the local market, ensuring it remains more liquid than many of its contemporaries.

SEL vs Lower Trims

The SEL trim provides essential upgrades over the base SE, including 18-inch alloy wheels and the Ford SYNC system with steering wheel-mounted controls. It also adds dual-zone automatic climate control and a power-adjustable driver's seat, both of which are critical for maintaining comfort during the intense GCC summer months. These features represent the 'sweet spot' for regional buyers who prioritize utility and comfort without the complexity of higher-tier electronics.

Edge vs Segment Rivals

The Ford Edge leads rivals like the Nissan Murano and Honda Pilot in terms of road-biased refinement and cabin quietness. While the Pilot offers a third row, the Edge focuses that space into a massive 912-litre boot, making it superior for airport runs or shopping trips. Its 3.5-litre V6 is widely regarded as more robust for long-term ownership compared to the smaller turbocharged units found in some newer European competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Expect a combined fuel consumption of approximately 11.1 L/100km, though highway cruising between cities can see figures drop to roughly 7.8 L/100km. Ford's authorized service network is extensive across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring that parts remain affordable and readily available even for older models. As a 12-year-old vehicle, it has already cleared its steepest depreciation curve, offering a stable value floor for the next owner.

Performance & Capability

The 285 hp V6 delivers smooth, linear power that is ideal for overtaking on fast-moving UAE highways like the E11. Equipped with All-Wheel Drive, it provides added confidence during occasional gravel-track driving or the rare rainy day when local roads become slick. With a braked towing capacity of 907 kg, it is also capable of hauling small trailers or jet skis for weekend activities.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat layout is designed for maximum passenger width, offering genuine comfort for three adults in the rear. The air conditioning system is famously powerful, a necessary trait for the region, and the SEL's upgraded upholstery holds up well against the sun's UV intensity. Thick glass and generous sound deadening keep the cabin isolated from wind and road noise during high-speed desert drives.

Safety

Standard safety features for this trim include six airbags, electronic stability control, and roll stability control, which are vital for maintaining composure on sand-drifted highways. The Edge also features Ford's SOS Post-Crash Alert System and a tire pressure monitoring system, helping you stay ahead of potential issues caused by high road temperatures.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Edge SEL is an ideal choice for a budget-conscious buyer looking for a durable, spacious workhorse that is perfectly adapted to the regional climate and highway culture.
