Summary

This Range Rover Sport SVR represents the inaugural year of Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division, offering a visceral driving experience that remains a benchmark for performance SUVs. With its distinctive exhaust note and aggressive styling, it stands out significantly from the standard models while maintaining genuine off-road credentials. The high-output supercharged V8 and SVR-specific chassis tuning provide sports-car-like handling on the road, yet it still offers the luxury and presence expected of the brand. For a GCC buyer, this is a chance to own a modern performance icon that handles long highway stretches between emirates with effortless power and prestige.

This Car vs Other 2015 Range Rover Sports

At 114,000 km, this vehicle sits at a typical average for a high-performance SUV in the GCC, where long-distance commuting is standard. While many examples of this year have faced heavy depreciation, the SVR trim maintains a stronger enthusiast following and higher value retention than the base V6 or standard V8 models. The unique Green finish is a rare, high-character choice that differentiates it from the common white and silver fleet, often appealing to collectors looking for specific SVO launch-era specifications.

SVR vs Lower Trims

The SVR is a significant mechanical step up from the Supercharged Autobiography, adding 40 hp and a recalibrated ZF 8-speed transmission that shifts up to 50% faster. Beyond the power, it features unique high-bolstered 16-way adjustable sports bucket seats, a quad-exit active exhaust system, and a bespoke suspension setup with Active Roll Control. GCC buyers will particularly appreciate the standard 19-speaker Meridian audio and the upgraded cooling capacity designed to handle the increased heat load of the high-output engine.

Range Rover Sport vs Segment Rivals

In the GCC market, the SVR competes directly with the BMW X5 M and Porsche Cayenne Turbo, leading the segment in pure off-road versatility thanks to its dual-range transfer case and 850 mm wading depth. While German rivals offer slightly more clinical road manners, the Range Rover provides a more emotive V8 soundtrack and superior presence on both city streets and sand tracks. Its Terrain Response 2 system remains more capable for weekend desert excursions than most other performance-oriented crossovers.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the supercharged V8 typically averages 12.8L/100km on the highway, though this can rise significantly in heavy GCC city traffic. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from the region's extensive Land Rover service network, with major authorized centers available across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. While high-performance European SUVs generally depreciate faster than Japanese luxury alternatives, the SVR's status as a Special Vehicle Operations product helps it retain a premium over standard trims in the local secondary market.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with a 5.0-litre supercharged V8, this SVR delivers 550 hp and 680 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 4.7 seconds. The permanent all-wheel-drive system and SVR-tuned active rear differential lock ensure maximum traction during high-speed highway overtaking or spirited mountain drives. Despite its track-focused tuning, it retains a maximum ground clearance of 235 mm and selectable off-road modes, making it one of the few vehicles capable of a Nürburgring lap and a desert crossing in the same weekend.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a blend of performance and luxury, featuring Oxford leather bucket seats that provide excellent support during cornering without sacrificing long-distance comfort. The quad-zone climate control and high-performance AC system are well-suited to the extreme GCC summer, ensuring all five passengers remain cool even in peak midday heat. Standard acoustic glass helps isolate the cabin from wind noise during fast highway cruises, while the carbon fiber trim accents remind you of the vehicle's racing pedigree.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive, featuring a high-performance six-piston Brembo braking system that provides exceptional stopping power for a vehicle of this size. It includes a suite of driver aids such as Corner Recognition to prevent mid-bend gear changes, stability control for high-speed maneuvers, and multiple airbags for occupant protection. These systems are particularly beneficial on the fast-moving multi-lane highways common throughout the region.

The bottom line

This 2015 SVR is an ideal choice for the enthusiast who demands maximum presence and performance without losing the ability to explore the GCC’s diverse landscapes. It remains one of the most charismatic SUVs on the market, offering a level of character and capability that newer, more digital rivals often struggle to match.
