Summary

This 2016 model strikes an excellent balance for families in the GCC, offering a premium seven-seat environment that has aged gracefully since its mid-cycle refresh. With mileage that sits comfortably within the expected range for its age in a region where long-distance highway commutes are the norm, it remains a mechanically sound and visually striking choice in its deep blue finish. This specific trim level elevates the daily driving experience with a suite of luxury features that are often optional on competitors, making it a high-value entry into the premium SUV segment. The combination of a powerful V6 engine and a GCC-optimized cooling system ensures reliable performance even during the peak summer months. For a buyer looking for a sophisticated family hauler that offers more prestige than a mainstream crossover without the extreme maintenance costs of European alternatives, this is a standout opportunity. Its status as a GCC-spec vehicle further cements its long-term value and ease of ownership within the UAE and wider region.

This Car vs Other 2016 QX60s

At 132,000 km, this vehicle reflects an annual usage of roughly 16,500 km, which is significantly lower than the GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km per year. In a market where high-mileage examples are common due to frequent trips between emirates like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, this car stands out as a relatively preserved example. The exterior blue shade provides a refreshing and upscale alternative to the more common white or silver, while still maintaining strong resale appeal due to its premium depth and finish. Buyers in the pre-owned market prioritize cars that haven't been overworked as primary desert explorers, and the clean condition of this unit suggests a life spent on well-maintained arterial roads. Choosing a GCC-spec model from this era also guarantees that the radiator and air conditioning systems are built to handle the intense local thermal loads, a benefit that North American imports cannot always match.

LUXURY vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to this trim level provides a transformative experience for both the driver and passengers, most notably through the inclusion of the Bose Cabin Surround sound system which delivers 15-speaker audio clarity. Unlike base models, this vehicle features premium leather-appointed seating with heating and ventilation for the front row—a non-negotiable comfort for surviving July and August in the Gulf. It also incorporates the Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, a 360-degree camera system that is indispensable when navigating tight parking spots in busy city malls. The interior is further distinguished by maple wood accents and a dual-occupant memory system for the driver's seat, steering wheel, and side mirrors. These additions not only provide an immediate sense of occasion but also ensure the car retains a higher percentage of its value when it comes time to trade in.

QX60 vs Segment Rivals

The QX60 occupies a unique space, competing primarily with the Lexus RX350L and the Acura MDX, yet it offers a more spacious third row than many in this class. Its 3.5-liter V6 provides smooth, linear power delivery that is better suited for the long, flat highways of the UAE and Saudi Arabia compared to the smaller turbocharged four-cylinders found in some German rivals. The fuel tank capacity is generous, allowing for extended range on cross-border drives without frequent stops at petrol stations. One of its most significant advantages is the sliding and tilting second-row seat, which allows access to the third row even with a child seat installed—a feature that family-oriented rivals struggle to match. Furthermore, the air conditioning system is widely regarded as one of the most robust in the segment, reaching cabin-wide temperature equilibrium much faster than European luxury crossovers.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this 3.5L V6 typically averages around 10.5 to 11.5 liters per 100km on the highway, while city driving in heavy traffic may see figures closer to 13.5 liters. Given the local availability of 95 or 98 octane petrol, the engine remains efficient and relatively simple to maintain. Servicing is supported by a massive network of authorized centers across the GCC, including Al Masaood and Arabian Automobiles in the UAE, which ensures that genuine parts are always readily available. The depreciation rate for this model in the GCC is impressively stable, typically losing about 10-12% annually, which is significantly better than the 15-18% seen in some European luxury equivalents. At this point in its lifecycle, the steepest part of the depreciation curve is over, making it a financially savvy purchase for a second or third owner.

Performance & Capability

The 265-horsepower V6 engine provides effortless acceleration, allowing this SUV to merge onto fast-moving highways with full confidence. While it is primarily designed as a road-going family vehicle, the Four Wheel Drive system provides essential stability and traction for rainy days or sandy patches on the way to a weekend beach site. The CVT transmission has been tuned specifically for smoothness, eliminating the jarring gear shifts found in traditional automatics and contributing to a serene cabin environment. With a towing capacity of up to 2,268 kg, it is more than capable of hauling a jet ski or a small trailer for regional adventures. The ground clearance is sufficient for navigating high speed bumps and gravel paths common in suburban developments across the GCC, providing a commanding view of the road without being cumbersome to enter or exit.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is one of the most versatile in the premium market, with ample legroom for adults in the first two rows and a respectable space for children or teenagers in the back. Triple-zone automatic climate control is standard, featuring rear-seat vents that ensure every passenger stays cool even when the external temperature hits 50°C. The cabin is exceptionally well-insulated, utilizing acoustic glass to drown out the wind noise during high-speed highway cruising. Large windows and a standard sunroof create an airy, open feel that reduces the sense of fatigue on long family road trips. The materials used throughout the cabin, from the soft-touch dashboard to the premium leather, are designed to withstand the intense UV exposure typical of the region without premature fading or cracking.

Safety

Safety is a hallmark of this model, which carries a 5-star rating from major international safety bodies. This trim includes Blind Spot Warning, which is crucial for safety on multi-lane highways like Sheikh Zayed Road where traffic speeds can vary significantly. Standard features include an advanced airbag system, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, and Brake Assist, providing peace of mind during emergency stops. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System is particularly valuable in the GCC, where high road temperatures can lead to rapid pressure fluctuations. Traction Control and Vehicle Dynamic Control systems work in the background to keep the car composed during sudden maneuvers on sandy or wet surfaces. This comprehensive safety suite ensures that the vehicle remains a top choice for safety-conscious parents who prioritize the well-being of their family.

The bottom line

For the GCC family seeking premium comfort without the premium price tag, this low-mileage QX60 is a balanced choice that handles the local climate and roads with ease. It represents a smart buy for those who value cabin space and Japanese reliability in a segment often dominated by more fragile alternatives.
