Summary

This 2016 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG represents a peak era for the G-Wagen, featuring the iconic 5.5-litre biturbo V8 before the industry-wide shift to smaller displacements. With mileage well under the GCC average for its age, this unit has been preserved as a high-status city cruiser rather than an off-road workhorse. The classic Black exterior remains the most sought-after resale color in the region, ensuring long-term value retention. For the GCC buyer, this model offers the perfect blend of raw mechanical character and the cooling performance required for extreme summer temperatures. It stands out as a distinctive alternative to modern crossovers, offering a level of presence and build quality that is increasingly rare.

This Car vs Other 2016 G63 AMGs

At 87,420 km, this G63 sits significantly below the typical GCC usage of 20,000 km per year, which would place an average 2016 model closer to 160,000 km. Its Black-on-black configuration is the primary choice for professional resale in the UAE and Saudi markets, consistently commanding a premium over lighter or non-standard shades. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it retains the reinforced cooling systems and regional warranty compatibility that imported US or Japanese models often lack.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The G63 AMG is the top-tier performance specification, adding the hand-assembled biturbo V8 that produces 571 hp, a significant leap over the G500's standard output. It features a unique AMG body kit with side-exit exhausts, high-performance braking systems with red calipers, and a more luxurious designo leather interior as standard. Unlike lower trims, the G63 includes specialized AMG-tuned suspension to handle its increased power on both highways and sand.

G63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Range Rover SVR or the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the G63 offers a traditional body-on-frame construction that provides unmatched durability in desert environments. While rivals focus on car-like handling, the G-Wagen features a 96-litre fuel tank designed for long-distance travel between emirates without frequent refueling stops. Its vertical seating position and iconic boxy design provide superior visibility in heavy city traffic compared to the sloping rooflines of modern performance SUVs.

Running Costs & Resale

The G63's 5.5-litre V8 typically returns approximately 13.8 L/100km on a combined cycle, though GCC stop-start traffic may see higher figures. Mercedes-Benz maintains a massive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring that parts and specialized technicians are always accessible. The G-Class historically defies typical luxury SUV depreciation, often retaining over 70% of its value after five years in the GCC, significantly outperforming its European competitors.

Performance & Capability

With a 0–100 km/h time of just 5.4 seconds, this SUV delivers sports-car acceleration despite its nearly 2.6-ton curb weight. It remains one of the only production vehicles equipped with three independent locking differentials and a low-range transfer case, making it as capable on Liwa’s dunes as it is on Sheikh Zayed Road. The 760 Nm of torque provides effortless overtaking power, while the 210 km/h limited top speed ensures stable high-speed cruising for cross-border journeys.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is centered around five designo Nappa leather seats, with 12-way power adjustment and climate control for the front occupants to combat the GCC heat. Acoustic glass and high-grade insulation help maintain cabin temperature even when external thermometers exceed 45°C. The standard Harman Kardon Surround Sound system and COMAND navigation provide a modern tech suite that remains intuitive and functional for daily use.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include Blind Spot Assist, which is essential for navigating fast-moving multi-lane GCC highways, and the PARKTRONIC system with a rear-view camera. It also features high-performance ABS, electronic stability control specifically tuned for a high center of gravity, and a comprehensive airbag suite. The reinforced ladder-frame chassis provides a physical level of occupant protection that is a hallmark of the G-Class engineering philosophy.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast seeking the classic 'Old School' G-Wagen feel with modern performance, this low-mileage GCC-spec G63 is a highly stable investment in today's market.
