• 87-litre fuel tank
• Seven seats standard

Summary

This 2016 Toyota Prado VXR represents a rare finding in the GCC market, combining the top-tier VXR trim with exceptionally low mileage for a vehicle of this age. Finished in black, which remains one of the most sought-after colors for resale across the Emirates, it offers a level of durability that competitors simply struggle to match. As a GCC-spec model, it is purpose-built to handle extreme regional temperatures with a cooling system designed for peak efficiency in the summer heat. For the family buyer or urban commuter, this provides the prestige and equipment of a VXR while maintaining the manageable running costs associated with the reliable 2.7L engine. It remains the gold standard for anyone seeking a mid-size SUV that holds its value better than almost anything else on the road.

This Car vs Other 2016 Prados

At just 52,125 km, this Prado has covered significantly less distance than the typical 200,000 km+ average expected for a 10-year-old SUV in the GCC. The black exterior is a high-demand choice in the local used market, often commanding a quicker sale and stronger price retention than non-standard shades. Finding a top-spec VXR with such low usage is a distinct advantage for a buyer prioritizing mechanical longevity.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim elevates the Prado experience with premium features often missing in the EXR and GXR, such as leather upholstery and chrome exterior enhancements. It introduces upgraded lighting including LED headlamps with auto-leveling and a more advanced instrument cluster for the driver. Buyers also benefit from enhanced cabin tech and superior interior materials that significantly improve the daily driving experience compared to the fabric-seated base models.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the Mitsubishi Pajero or Ford Everest, the Prado leads with its legendary resale value and the sheer density of the Toyota service network across every GCC border. Its body-on-frame construction provides a level of ruggedness that rivals often sacrifice for on-road dynamics. The 87-litre fuel tank is a major asset for long-distance highway cruises between Dubai and Riyadh, offering substantial range between refills.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7L engine typically ranges from 11.5L to 13.5L/100km depending on GCC stop-start traffic conditions. Service intervals are standardized at 10,000 km, supported by the widest network of authorized centers in the region, ensuring parts are always available and affordable. The Prado maintains one of the lowest annual depreciation rates in the UAE, often retaining over 50% of its value even after several years of use.

Performance & Capability

The 160 hp 2.7L engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission that was introduced specifically for this model year to improve highway refinement. With a top speed of 165 km/h, it is geared for reliability and steady cruising rather than outright sprint speed. The permanent all-wheel-drive system ensures maximum traction during weekend desert excursions or when navigating gravel tracks, providing true go-anywhere capability for the modern GCC family.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior features a full 7-seat configuration with a sliding second row to balance legroom and cargo space as needed. Specifically adapted for the Gulf climate, the air conditioning system is exceptionally powerful, featuring rear cooling vents to ensure all passengers remain comfortable during the peak of summer. The VXR cabin is insulated for a quiet ride, making it an ideal environment for long cross-border road trips.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive in the VXR trim, featuring seven airbags as standard, including a driver's knee airbag and curtain airbags for all three rows. Active systems such as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC) are standard, helping maintain composure on sandy or rain-slicked surfaces. The inclusion of a rear-view camera and parking sensors adds essential visibility for urban maneuvering in tight city spaces.

The bottom line

This is the perfect opportunity for a buyer who wants the reliability of a Prado with the luxury of the VXR trim, all in a low-mileage package that is virtually impossible to find elsewhere in the current market.
