Summary

This 2017 Bentley Flying Spur W12 is a standout example of grand touring luxury, offering a rare combination of twelve-cylinder power and executive refinement that remains highly sought after in the GCC market. With surprisingly low mileage for its age, this sedan has significantly bypassed the heavy road-wear typically seen in the region, positioning it as an elite choice for buyers who prioritize mechanical longevity. The classic black exterior is not just a prestigious choice but also ensures this vehicle maintains the strongest possible resale value within the UAE and wider Gulf markets. While its competitors often prioritize tech over substance, this Bentley leans into the weight and quality of hand-assembled craftsmanship that delivers a uniquely composed ride on long highway stretches between emirates. For a serious buyer in the region, the most important consideration is the sheer durability of the W12 powertrain when properly maintained, as it offers a level of thermal stability and high-speed cruising comfort that smaller engines simply cannot replicate in extreme summer heat. This listing represents a strategic purchase for anyone seeking the pinnacle of the British automotive tradition with plenty of life left for daily executive use or weekend touring.

This Car vs Other 2017 Flying Spurs

At 48,000 km, this specific unit sits well below the average mileage expected for a 2017 luxury sedan in the GCC, which typically sees 20,000 to 25,000 km of travel annually. While many same-year models have already crossed the 100,000 km threshold due to heavy commuting between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, this car has been preserved in a way that protects both the engine seals and the leather interior from excessive wear. The black exterior is the most preferred color in the secondary market for high-end British sedans, providing a significant advantage when it comes time to trade-in or sell. Because it has been driven sparingly, the suspension components and the complex W12 cooling systems are likely in much better condition than higher-mileage alternatives currently listed. This lower usage also means the cabin's tactile surfaces, such as the knurled metal and wood veneers, retain their original showroom luster. Choosing a lower-mileage example like this one is the most effective way to mitigate the maintenance risks associated with high-end European imports in the Gulf.

W12 vs Lower Trims

The W12 trim is the definitive identity of the Flying Spur, providing a substantial leap in performance and stature over the V8 variant. While the V8 is capable, the W12 offers a unique 'wave' of torque that ensures the car never feels strained, even when accelerating from high speeds on the E11 highway. This trim typically includes higher-grade leather hides and more intricate wood inlay options as standard, reflecting its position at the top of the Bentley hierarchy. Enthusiasts in the GCC specifically seek out the W12 for its cooling efficiency; the larger engine displacement allows the car to maintain high speeds with lower internal stress, a vital factor during the peak summer months. You also gain specific exterior branding and larger brake discs that differentiate the car's profile from its entry-level counterparts. Inside, the W12 often features more extensive acoustic glazing, resulting in a cabin that is significantly quieter and better insulated from the ambient noise of city traffic and wind shear.

Flying Spur vs Segment Rivals

The Flying Spur competes primarily with the Rolls-Royce Ghost and the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, yet it carves out a niche by offering a more driver-focused experience than either. Unlike the Maybach, which can sometimes feel like an extended version of a standard sedan, the Bentley is built on a dedicated platform that emphasizes structural rigidity and hand-crafted exclusivity. Its All-Wheel Drive system provides a level of high-speed stability on dust-slicked roads that the rear-wheel-drive Ghost occasionally lacks. The interior utilizes genuine metal and heavy wood veneers where rivals often substitute high-quality plastics, giving the Bentley a 'heft' and tactile quality that is immediately apparent. Furthermore, the Flying Spur's cooling system is renowned for its ability to pull cabin temperatures down rapidly, a feature that owners in Riyadh or Kuwait City will find far superior to many other European luxury marques. It strikes the perfect balance for the owner who occasionally likes to take the wheel themselves rather than sitting exclusively in the rear.

Running Costs & Resale

Owning a W12 Bentley in the GCC involves a commitment to premium maintenance, but the rewards are found in the car's remarkable reliability when serviced at authorized centers. Real-world fuel consumption reflects the nature of a 6.0L engine; while thirsty in stop-start city traffic in Downtown Dubai, it becomes surprisingly efficient during steady-state cruising at 120 km/h. High-grade Super 98 fuel is the standard requirement to maintain the integrity of the fuel injectors and turbochargers. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km or once a year, with major inspections occurring at the 40,000 km mark—making this 48,000 km example particularly attractive if its major service has recently been completed. Within the UAE, Bentley has a very strong service network with massive flagship facilities that ensure parts like air filters and brake pads are always in stock. While European luxury cars generally see a 15% annual depreciation in this market, the Flying Spur W12 tends to plateau after the five-year mark, especially in popular colors like black, making it a relatively stable asset compared to newer, mass-produced luxury cars.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this vehicle is the 552 horsepower W12 engine, a masterpiece of engineering that propels this heavy sedan with the grace of a much smaller sports car. The All-Wheel Drive system is not just for grip; it actively manages power distribution to ensure that even under hard acceleration, the car remains perfectly level and composed. This makes highway overtaking effortless, allowing the driver to merge into fast-moving lanes with total confidence. With a top speed well north of 300 km/h, the car is never working at even half its capacity during legal GCC highway speeds, which contributes to the engine's long-term durability. The air suspension system is tuned to iron out the imperfections of the road, providing a 'magic carpet' ride that is essential for long-distance travel across borders. Despite its size, the steering is precise, and the massive brakes provide consistent stopping power even when the ambient temperature is at its highest. It is a car designed to shrink long distances, making the drive from Dubai to Muscat feel like a short trip.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Flying Spur is a sanctuary of five-seat luxury, where every surface is covered in either premium leather, natural wood, or polished chrome. The air conditioning system in the 2017 model is exceptionally powerful, featuring multi-zone climate control that allows rear passengers to create their own micro-climate independent of the driver. Ventilated seats are a highlight here, utilizing high-speed fans to keep occupants cool even after the car has been parked in the sun. The cabin insulation is world-class, utilizing thick carpeting and double-pane glass to block out the heat and the roar of the desert wind. Storage is ample, and the boot space is deep enough to accommodate several full-sized suitcases for airport runs or weekend getaways. For entertainment, the standard audio system—often upgraded to Naim in these trims—provides a crisp, concert-hall experience that remains undistorted even at higher volumes. The sense of space in the rear is particularly generous, offering enough legroom for tall adults to stretch out comfortably during cross-emirate journeys.

Safety

Safety in the Flying Spur is handled by a suite of systems designed to intervene subtly without disrupting the luxury experience. The All-Wheel Drive system acts as a primary safety feature, providing mechanical grip that is invaluable during the rare but hazardous rain showers that can make local roads extremely slippery. Standard equipment includes a sophisticated stability control system and multiple airbags that create a protective cocoon for all five occupants. Given the high speeds of GCC highways, the blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control systems are essential tools that reduce driver fatigue and help navigate through dense traffic. The car's heavy chassis and reinforced door beams offer a level of passive protection that is among the best in the sedan segment. Parking sensors and a high-resolution rear-view camera are also standard, ensuring that maneuvering this large vehicle in tight mall parking structures is a stress-free process.

The bottom line

This Flying Spur W12 is the ideal choice for an executive or collector who wants the prestige of a hand-built Bentley without the high entry price of a brand-new model. Its low mileage and classic black-on-black color scheme make it a rare, high-value find in the current UAE used market.
