Summary

This 2017 Range Rover Sport SE is a versatile choice for the GCC market, combining the brand's legendary off-road hardware with a road-focused supercharged V6. With 163,159 km over 9 years, its mileage is exactly in line with the high-usage highway lifestyle common across the Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The Burgundy exterior offers a sophisticated alternative to the typical white or silver, while remaining a respected choice for resale in the local luxury segment. For the buyer looking to balance daily Dubai commuting with weekend desert excursions, this GCC-spec model offers the ideal entry point into the Range Rover lineup. Its combination of air suspension and permanent all-wheel drive ensures it handles the regional climate and varied terrain with ease.

This Car vs Other 2017 Range Rover Sports

At 9 years old, this vehicle's mileage reflects a consistent annual usage of approximately 18,000 km, which is actually below the typical GCC average for luxury SUVs that often exceed 20,000 km annually. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from a cooling system and air conditioning unit specifically engineered to maintain performance during the extreme summer heat of the Gulf. The Burgundy paint is a premium finish that retains its luster well in high-UV environments compared to darker flat colors.

SE vs Lower Trims

The SE trim serves as the foundation for the Sport range, yet it comes standard with features often optional on rivals, including self-leveling electronic air suspension and the 10.2-inch InControl Touch Pro infotainment system. Unlike base-level luxury SUVs, the SE includes genuine leather upholstery and 14-way power-adjustable front seats as standard equipment. It also features the essential Terrain Response system, allowing drivers to optimize the drivetrain for sand, rock, or gravel at the touch of a button.

Range Rover Sport vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the BMW X5 or Porsche Cayenne, the Range Rover Sport leads with a superior wading depth of 850 mm and significantly more robust off-road geometry. Its 104-litre fuel tank provides a distinct advantage for long-distance cross-border drives between the UAE and Oman or Saudi Arabia, offering more range between stops than most European competitors. The integrated air suspension also provides a level of adjustable ground clearance that road-biased rivals rarely match.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.0L supercharged V6 typically averages 10.5 L/100km on the highway, rising to approximately 14 L/100km in heavy GCC city traffic. Authorized service centers are widely available across the UAE and the broader GCC, with standard service intervals recommended every 13,000 km or 12 months. While European luxury SUVs generally see higher depreciation than Japanese counterparts, GCC-spec Range Rover Sports maintain a strong following and liquid market in the Emirates.

Performance & Capability

The 340 hp supercharged engine delivers a 0–100 km/h time of 7.2 seconds, providing ample power for confident highway overtaking on the E11. With a maximum ground clearance of 278 mm and a braked towing capacity of 3,500 kg, it is as capable at hauling a boat to the marina as it is navigating soft sand. The single-speed transfer box and permanent All-Wheel Drive system are specifically tuned to provide traction without the complexity of traditional heavy-duty lockers.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is designed for long-distance comfort, featuring dual-zone climate control with powerful vents that are essential for the 45°C+ summer months. High-quality leather and aluminum trim define the interior, while the 10.2-inch touchscreen provides seamless access to navigation and media. Cabin insulation is a standout feature, effectively shielding passengers from both desert heat and high-speed wind noise on the highway.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive on the SE trim, featuring Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and rear parking sensors as standard. The vehicle's Roll Stability Control and Cornering Brake Control are particularly beneficial for maintaining composure during sudden maneuvers on sandy or uneven surfaces. Additionally, the blind-spot monitoring system provides crucial assistance when navigating the fast-moving, multi-lane highways of major GCC cities.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Range Rover Sport is the perfect match for a buyer who wants iconic British styling and genuine off-road capability without the maintenance overhead of the V8 models.
