Summary

This Edition 1 example of the iconic G-Class represents a pinnacle of desirability in the GCC used car market, balancing the exclusivity of a launch-edition trim with the unmatched street presence the model is known for. With a black-on-black aesthetic that remains the most sought-after color combination in the region, this vehicle is perfectly aligned with local resale preferences. Although it has covered typical mileage for a high-performance daily driver in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, the robust hand-built V8 ensures it handles highway commutes and urban traffic with plenty of reserve. This spec stands out due to the unique Edition 1 interior accents and matte exterior touches that the standard models lack. Ownership of this flagship SUV in the GCC is a statement of both status and smart investment, as few vehicles in the world retain their value as reliably as this particular model. For a buyer looking for a GCC-spec performance SUV that is ready for the road and holds its worth, this is an exceptional candidate.

This Car vs Other 2019 G63 AMGs

When looking at the 2019 inventory across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, this specific unit sits right at the average mileage mark for a vehicle that has been used consistently for both professional commuting and social outings. In the GCC, annual averages often hit 25,000 kilometers, meaning this car has been driven exactly as intended without excessive wear. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it offers the peace of mind that all cooling systems and filtration are designed for the high-ambient heat of the region, unlike imported versions from secondary markets. The black exterior is the primary choice for resale strength in the local market, ensuring a broader pool of buyers when you eventually decide to upgrade. Choosing an Edition 1 over a standard 2019 model adds a layer of collectibility that typically results in faster sales and firmer prices on the used market. It has clearly been maintained to the standard expected of such a high-profile vehicle in this region.

EDITION 1 vs Lower Trims

Stepping into the Edition 1 trim moves the experience from a standard performance SUV to a curated luxury environment specifically designed for the model's debut. This trim adds exclusive 22-inch forged wheels with red rim flanges and subtle silver-grey side stripes that signal its limited-production status to those in the know. Inside, the cabin is upgraded with the AMG Night Package and red carbon fiber weave trim that isn't available on the base models, providing a much sportier atmosphere. The seats feature Nappa leather with red contrast stitching and diamond quilting, offering a level of tactile luxury that basic trims lack. Perhaps most importantly for the GCC climate, this trim includes the highest tier of climate control and seat ventilation as standard, ensuring maximum comfort during the peak of summer. It is a comprehensive package that combines aesthetic aggression with the full suite of Mercedes-Benz luxury technology.

G63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

The G63 AMG occupies a unique space where it is frequently cross-shopped with the Range Rover Autobiography and the Lamborghini Urus. While the Urus focuses on track-like on-road dynamics, the Mercedes offers a vastly superior command seating position and a genuine low-range gearbox for weekend adventures in the Liwa or Fossil Rock dunes. Compared to the Range Rover, the Mercedes holds a significant advantage in long-term reliability and the strength of its local service network across every major city in the GCC. The 100-liter fuel tank is a massive benefit for those driving between Dubai and Muscat or Riyadh, significantly reducing the frequency of stops on long desert highways. Its ladder-frame construction also provides a level of durability and ruggedness on varied road surfaces that its unibody competitors simply cannot match. It remains the only choice for the buyer who wants supercar-levels of power paired with the structural integrity of a traditional off-roader.

Running Costs & Resale

Owning a G-Class in the GCC is widely considered a safe financial move due to its legendary value retention, often losing only about 10-12% annually compared to the 18% seen in other European luxury SUVs. Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.0L Biturbo engine averages around 14 to 16 liters per 100km on modern UAE highways, though this will increase in heavy stop-start traffic in downtown Riyadh or Business Bay. Service intervals are typically every 15,000 kilometers or once a year, and because this is a GCC-spec car, parts are readily available at authorized centers throughout the Emirates and neighboring states. The maintenance is straightforward for a specialized vehicle, focusing on oil quality and ensuring the cooling systems remain clear of sand and debris. After three years of ownership, this model remains one of the easiest high-end vehicles to sell, as demand consistently outstrips supply in the regional used market. You are essentially buying into a vehicle that acts as a store of value while providing world-class performance.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this vehicle is a hand-assembled 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 577 horsepower, capable of launching this 5,000lb SUV from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. This performance is particularly noticeable during highway overtaking, where the massive torque provides effortless acceleration even at higher speeds. Beyond the pavement, it remains one of the few luxury vehicles with three independently locking differentials and a true 4-Low transfer case, making it exceptionally capable on soft sand or rocky wadi terrain. The ground clearance of 241mm ensures that even the most challenging obstacles can be cleared with confidence during a weekend escape. On-road, the AMG Ride Control suspension keeps the vehicle flat through corners while still providing a smooth ride across the varied surfaces of GCC roads. It is a dual-purpose machine that excels equally at valet parking at the Burj Al Arab as it does navigating a desert trail.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat layout offers ample headroom for all passengers, a benefit of the iconic boxy design that modern sloping-roof SUVs have lost. The cabin is an oasis of cool thanks to a high-capacity air conditioning system specifically tuned for Middle Eastern environments, which works in tandem with the ventilated front seats to combat exterior heat. The Burmester Surround Sound system comes standard, providing an immersive audio experience that is perfect for long cross-country drives. Cabin insulation has been significantly improved in this generation, ensuring that wind noise is kept to a minimum even at highway speeds. The twin 12.3-inch widescreen displays provide clear navigation and vehicle data, while the ambient lighting allows for a customized atmosphere during evening drives. It is a space that feels both modern and heritage-rich, providing a sense of occasion every time the door is closed with that characteristic mechanical click.

Safety

Safety in this flagship SUV is comprehensive, featuring an array of systems designed to protect in both urban and rural driving scenarios. Standard features include Active Braking Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, which are vital for maintaining safety on the fast-paced, multi-lane highways of the GCC. Blind Spot Assist is particularly helpful given the car's unique dimensions, ensuring safe lane changes when surrounded by smaller traffic. The 360-degree camera system makes parking in tight urban spaces far easier than the vehicle's size would suggest. It also features a high-strength passenger cell and advanced airbag systems that have contributed to its reputation for occupant protection. These active and passive technologies provide a layer of driver confidence that makes this powerful machine feel manageable and secure in all weather and road conditions found across the region.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the ultimate regional status symbol without the massive initial depreciation of a brand-new unit, this black Edition 1 is the perfect choice. It offers the most sought-after spec in the GCC with the added peace of mind that comes from a full GCC-standard mechanical ecosystem and historically strong resale value.
