Summary

This 2020 Range Rover HSE represents the quintessential luxury SUV for the GCC, balancing the prestige of the L405 generation with the efficiency of the 380-horsepower supercharged V6. Finished in timeless Black, a color that commands the highest resale liquidity in the UAE, this GCC-spec example has covered a mileage consistent with the region's highway-centric driving habits. It offers a more refined, road-biased experience than its body-on-frame competitors while retaining genuine off-road capability for desert weekends. For the local buyer, the primary advantage here is the HSE's elevated equipment level, featuring ventilated seating and advanced driver assistance essential for the extreme summer heat and fast-moving highway traffic.

This Car vs Other 2020 Range Rovers

With 105,804 km on the odometer, this vehicle sits within the expected mileage range for a six-year-old car in the GCC, where annual averages typically reach 20,000 km due to inter-emirate commuting. The Black exterior is the most sought-after color in the local used market, ensuring faster resale and better value retention compared to niche shades. As a GCC-spec model, it benefits from localized cooling systems and a service history compatible with authorized dealers like Al Tayer or Euro Motors.

HSE vs Lower Trims

The HSE trim is a significant step up from the base Vogue, adding features that are highly prioritized by UAE buyers. It introduces Soft Door Close and a more sophisticated 20-way power-adjustable seating system upholstered in perforated Windsor leather. Most importantly for the region, the HSE standardizes the 360-degree Parking Aid and Blind Spot Monitoring, providing essential safety for the multi-lane highways of Dubai and Riyadh.

Range Rover vs Segment Rivals

When cross-shopped against the Mercedes-Benz GLS or the Lexus LX 570, the Range Rover leads with its superior 900 mm wading depth and all-aluminum monocoque construction, which provides a significantly more car-like handling experience on tarmac. While rivals may offer more seats, the Range Rover focuses on a peerless second-row experience and a 104-litre fuel tank that is ideal for long-range desert crossings or non-stop drives between Abu Dhabi and Muscat.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.0L supercharged V6 is noted for being more fuel-efficient in GCC stop-start traffic than the 5.0L V8 variants, averaging roughly 11.5 L/100km in combined cycles. Range Rovers in the UAE typically follow 13,000 km or 12-month service intervals, and with an extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, maintenance is straightforward. Historically, GCC-spec Range Rovers in Black retain approximately 60-65% of their value after three years, outperforming non-regional imports.

Performance & Capability

The 380 hp supercharged engine enables a 0-100 km/h sprint in approximately 7.2 seconds, providing effortless overtaking power on the E11 highway. Its Terrain Response system allows the driver to optimize the air suspension and drivetrain for sand, gravel, or grass, making it as capable in the dunes of Liwa as it is outside the Burj Khalifa. The adjustable air suspension also facilitates easy entry and loading, while providing up to 297 mm of maximum ground clearance when needed.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary from the GCC summer, equipped with a powerful three-zone climate control system and ventilated front seats. The Touch Pro Duo infotainment system provides dual high-definition screens for seamless control of navigation and media, while the Meridian audio system offers 380 watts of crisp sound. Acoustic laminated glass and thick insulation ensure the interior remains quiet and cool, even when external temperatures exceed 45°C.

Safety

Standard safety on the HSE trim includes a comprehensive ADAS suite with Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and a 360-degree camera system which is vital for maneuvering a large SUV in tight city parking. The All Wheel Drive system is bolstered by Dynamic Stability Control and Roll Stability Control, providing an extra layer of protection during rare but heavy rain or on unpredictable sand-covered surfaces.

The bottom line

This Range Rover HSE is the perfect choice for an executive or family seeking the region's most prestigious SUV in its most liquid resale color. It offers the ideal balance of V6 efficiency and flagship luxury, making it a highly rational way to enter the world of high-end British motoring.
