Summary

This Nissan Patrol Super Safari is a standout example of the legendary Y61 generation, featuring the sought-after 5-speed manual transmission that purists demand. With 88,000 km on the clock, this GCC-spec SUV has been driven well below the regional average for its age, making it a prime candidate for long-term ownership. The white exterior remains the most practical and high-resale choice for the Gulf climate, effectively reflecting the intense summer heat. Known for its 'unbreakable' reputation, this trim adds significant factory upgrades that bridge the gap between rugged utility and modern convenience. It represents a rare opportunity to own a modern classic that is as capable on the dunes of Liwa as it is reliable on the E11 highway.

This Car vs Other 2020 Patrols

At 88,000 km, this vehicle has averaged just 22,000 km per year, which is considered low-to-average for a heavy-duty SUV in the GCC where 25,000 km is the standard. The manual transmission in this specific unit makes it rarer than the common automatic variants, significantly boosting its appeal among enthusiasts. Its white paint is the top-performing resale color in the UAE and Saudi markets, ensuring it holds its value better than darker alternatives.

SUPER SAFARI vs Lower Trims

The Super Safari trim is a major step up from the standard Safari, adding premium leather upholstery, a cooled center console for beverages, and distinctive machine-cut 17-inch alloy wheels. Crucially, it includes the rear differential lock as standard equipment, a feature often missing or optional on lower GL trims. You also benefit from a factory sunroof and the iconic 'Super Safari' body stripes that signal its flagship status.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Toyota Land Cruiser 76 Series, the Patrol Super Safari offers a more powerful 4.8L engine and superior high-speed stability on the highway. While the Toyota is famed for utility, the Patrol provides a much larger 135-litre dual fuel tank system, allowing for massive range between remote fuel stations. Its cabin refinement and air conditioning performance are widely regarded as better suited for large families than its more utilitarian competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

The TB48DE engine is legendary for its durability but has a high fuel consumption of roughly 17.2 L/100km in city driving; however, its mechanical simplicity keeps maintenance costs low. Service intervals are typically every 5,000 to 10,000 km, and with Nissan's massive GCC parts network, repairs are affordable and fast. This model enjoys one of the lowest depreciation rates in the region, often retaining over 75% of its value after three years.

Performance & Capability

Under the hood is the 4.8-litre VTC inline-six producing 280 hp and 451 Nm of torque, paired with a heavy-duty manual gearbox that gives the driver total control in soft sand. The 215 mm of ground clearance and excellent approach angles allow it to navigate technical wadis and steep dunes with ease. On the road, the long wheelbase provides a planted feel even at the 190 km/h governed top speed.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is designed for the Gulf, featuring a high-output air conditioning system with dedicated rear vents to keep all seven passengers cool in 50°C heat. The tan leather seats are durable and easy to clean, while the wood-grain trim adds a touch of classic executive style. The cabin is surprisingly quiet for a body-on-frame vehicle, thanks to improved sound insulation standard on the Super Safari trim.

Safety

Safety is managed through a robust body-on-frame construction, dual front airbags, and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) designed for mixed-surface grip. This trim also features Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which are essential for maintaining stability when transitioning from highway speeds to lower-pressure desert driving.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast who wants the most capable manual off-roader in the UAE without sacrificing factory luxuries, this low-mileage Super Safari is the definitive choice.
