Summary

This 2020 Nissan Patrol Super Safari represents the final evolution of the legendary Y61 generation, a vehicle that commands a cult-like following across the GCC for its unmatched mechanical simplicity. While its mileage reflects the typical long-distance lifestyle of a six-year-old regional workhorse, the bulletproof 4.8L VTC engine is built to handle far more with basic maintenance. The classic white exterior is the highest-demand color for resale in the Emirates, ensuring this SUV holds its value better than almost any modern rival. For a buyer seeking a true desert companion that can be serviced in any corner of the peninsula, this Super Safari is the definitive choice.

This Car vs Other 2020 Patrols

With 200,000 km, this vehicle has seen consistent highway use, which is typical for a six-year-old SUV in a region where annual averages often hit 35,000 km. Its white exterior is the gold standard for GCC resale, offering maximum heat reflection and strong demand in the used market. Unlike the newer Y62 models from the same year, this Y61 generation is preferred by purists for its superior durability and lower long-term repair complexity.

SUPER SAFARI vs Lower Trims

The Super Safari trim adds essential GCC upgrades over the standard Safari and GL, including a factory-fitted rear spoiler, larger alloy wheels, and signature body graphics. Inside, it features a built-in cool box for refreshments during summer drives, electric seat adjustments, and a sunroof as standard. It also includes the critical rear differential lock, a feature often missing or optional on lower-spec Safari models.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

Against rivals like the Toyota Land Cruiser 70-series, the Patrol Super Safari offers a more refined cabin experience while maintaining a superior 135-litre total fuel capacity via its main and sub-tank system. While modern unibody SUVs lead in tech, they cannot match the Patrol's heavy-duty ladder-frame chassis for serious off-road longevity. Its straight-six VTC engine provides a unique balance of torque and reliability that remains a benchmark in the desert SUV segment.

Running Costs & Resale

The Super Safari is known for its legendary value retention, typically losing only 8-10% annually in the GCC market. While the 4.8L engine is thirsty in stop-start city traffic, its reliability ensures that maintenance is predictable, with 10,000 km service intervals standard across Nissan's vast regional network. Parts are exceptionally affordable and available in every major city from Dubai to Muscat, making it one of the most cost-effective long-term 4x4s to own.

Performance & Capability

The TB48DE engine delivers a verified 280 hp (gross), providing the linear torque required for effortless dune climbing and highway overtaking. It features a heavy-duty four-wheel-drive system with a manual low-range transfer case, allowing the driver to tackle extreme terrain that would stop most modern crossovers. With 215 mm of ground clearance and a 700 mm wading depth, it is purpose-built for the diverse geographical challenges of the Arabian Peninsula.

Comfort & Cabin

Designed for GCC families, the 7-seat cabin features a powerful multi-zone air conditioning system that is widely regarded as one of the best in the industry. The interior is accented with wood-grain trim and durable upholstery designed to withstand high-temperature environments. Added conveniences like the cooled center console box and rear cooling vents ensure all passengers remain comfortable during long cross-border road trips.

Safety

Standard safety features on the Super Safari include dual front airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and cruise control for relaxed highway cruising. This trim also benefits from rear parking sensors and a rearview camera to aid visibility in a vehicle of this size. The robust body-on-frame construction provides a level of passive safety and structural integrity highly valued by off-road enthusiasts.

The bottom line

This is a prime opportunity for a desert enthusiast or family seeking an unbreakable GCC icon that has been proven on local roads and is ready for another decade of service.
