Summary

This 2021 Land Rover Defender 90 HSE P400 combines the agility of the short-wheelbase chassis with the powerful 400 hp mild-hybrid straight-six engine. Having covered 134,000 km, this vehicle has been a reliable companion for cross-emirate travel and remains a highly sought-after configuration in the GCC for its balance of luxury and genuine off-road hardware. The Pangea Green exterior is one of the most iconic and resale-strong colors for the modern Defender, perfectly suiting its heritage-inspired design. As an HSE trim, it features the high-end interior and advanced driver aids that buyers expect in the premium SUV segment. This is a rare opportunity to own a high-spec, modern icon that is as comfortable on a weekend desert excursion as it is in daily city traffic.

This Car vs Other 2021 Defender 90s

With 134,000 km over 5 years, this Defender has averaged approximately 26,800 km annually, which is consistent with typical highway-heavy usage patterns in the GCC. While the mileage is higher than a purely urban-driven vehicle, the P400 powertrain is specifically engineered for these long-distance demands. The Green exterior finish is a significant advantage at resale, as it is widely considered the model's signature launch color across the region.

HSE P400 vs Lower Trims

The HSE trim sits near the top of the range, adding essential GCC comfort features over the SE and S trims, including ventilated and heated 14-way power Windsor leather seats and a panoramic sunroof. It also upgrades the cabin technology with a more advanced Meridian sound system and adds Adaptive Cruise Control as standard. The P400 engine itself is a massive jump over the base P300, providing 100 extra horsepower and a smooth mild-hybrid system that aids efficiency during stop-start traffic.

Defender 90 vs Segment Rivals

The Defender 90 leads rivals like the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and Ford Bronco in terms of on-road refinement and interior material quality, making it a better daily driver. It offers a 90-liter fuel tank, providing superior range for long-distance desert trips compared to many compact 4x4s. Its unibody construction provides car-like handling on the E11 highway while maintaining a class-leading 900 mm wading depth that outperforms most ladder-frame competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.0L mild-hybrid powertrain helps manage fuel consumption in city traffic, though real-world GCC figures typically hover around 11–13 L/100km depending on driving style. Land Rover has a massive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring parts and expert maintenance are always accessible. The Defender 90 maintains exceptionally strong value retention in the GCC used market due to its high demand and the relatively limited supply of the short-wheelbase three-door variant.

Performance & Capability

The P400 engine delivers 400 hp and 550 Nm of torque, enabling a swift 0–100 km/h sprint in just 6.0 seconds—impressive for a vehicle with this much hardware. The standard Terrain Response system allows the driver to optimize the AWD system for sand, rock, or mud at the touch of a button. With a maximum wading depth of 900 mm and a sophisticated air suspension system, it is one of the few luxury SUVs that can genuinely transition from a high-speed highway cruise to deep desert dunes without hesitation.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the five-seat layout offers surprising legroom and a high-command driving position that provides excellent visibility for fast-moving GCC traffic. The HSE-specific ventilated seats are a necessity for the local summer, ensuring the cabin stays comfortable even when temperatures exceed 45°C. Dual-zone climate control and high-quality insulation from road noise make the Defender 90 a refined space for long road trips across the emirates.

Safety

The 2021 Defender is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including six airbags and a 360-degree 3D Surround Camera that is invaluable for both tight parking and navigating tricky off-road obstacles. Standard ADAS features on the HSE include Blind Spot Assist and Rear Traffic Monitor, which provide essential support on busy multi-lane highways. Lane Keep Assist and Emergency Braking further enhance its 5-star safety credentials.

The bottom line

This Defender 90 HSE P400 is the ideal choice for an enthusiast looking for the perfect blend of iconic British design and high-performance GCC capability. It represents a strong value opportunity for a buyer who prioritizes a high-trim specification and the most desirable color combination in the current market.
