Summary

This 2022 Mazda CX-9 GT offers a premium SUV experience that punches well above its weight in the GCC market. With mileage at 76,000 km, it has been driven at a typical regional pace and presents a strong resale case due to its sought-after blue exterior and high-tier equipment list. The GT trim is the sweet spot for UAE families, providing a luxury-aligned cabin without the steeper depreciation of European rivals. Its turbocharged powertrain is perfectly suited for the long, high-speed highway stretches between emirates, offering effortless overtaking and refined cruising.

This Car vs Other 2022 CX-9s

At 76,000 km, this vehicle's mileage is slightly above the global average but aligns perfectly with typical GCC highway use where annual averages range between 20,000 and 25,000 km. The Blue exterior is a sophisticated choice that maintains strong desirability in the secondary market compared to more common white or silver variants. Choosing a 2022 model means benefiting from a mature production cycle where the second-generation platform reached its peak for mechanical reliability.

GT vs Lower Trims

The GT (Grand Touring) trim adds essential GCC comforts not found on the Sport or Touring models, most notably ventilated front seats to combat the summer heat. It upgrades the driving experience with 20-inch alloy wheels, a 360° camera for effortless parking in tight city spots, and a premium 12-speaker Bose audio system. You also gain a head-up display and adaptive front lighting, features that significantly improve safety during night-time highway drives.

CX-9 vs Segment Rivals

The CX-9 stands out against rivals like the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot by offering a significantly more athletic driving feel and a cabin that rivals entry-level luxury brands. While the Highlander focuses on hybrid efficiency, the Mazda leads in chassis dynamics and interior material quality. Its 74-litre fuel tank ensures long-range capability for cross-border trips or long desert highway stretches.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages around 9.0L/100km on highways, while city driving in heavy GCC traffic can see figures closer to 12.5L/100km. Mazda maintains a strong authorized service presence across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman through Galadari and similar networks, with recommended service intervals every 10,000 km. While it depreciates slightly faster than a Toyota, the CX-9 holds its value far better than European SUVs in the same price bracket.

Performance & Capability

The 2.5L turbocharged engine produces a substantial 420 Nm of torque at just 2,000 RPM, delivering immediate power for highway overtaking. The standard i-Activ All-Wheel Drive system provides excellent stability on sandy shoulders or during rare rain events, while the 222 mm ground clearance is ample for gravel tracks and suburban curbs. With a braked towing capacity of 2,000 kg, it is also capable of hauling light trailers or jet skis for weekend adventures.

Comfort & Cabin

The three-row, seven-seat layout is designed with premium leather and high-grade insulation to keep the cabin quiet at highway speeds. A powerful three-zone climate control system ensures rear passengers stay cool even when external temperatures exceed 45°C. The GT trim further enhances comfort with a power moonroof and driver-side memory settings, making it an ideal choice for households with multiple drivers.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes a comprehensive ADAS suite with Mazda Radar Cruise Control, which is indispensable for long commutes between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The vehicle is equipped with Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, and Smart City Brake Support with pedestrian detection. The 360° view monitor and front/rear parking sensors provide complete visibility, effectively mitigating the blind spots typical of larger SUVs.

The bottom line

This CX-9 GT is the ideal choice for a GCC buyer who wants a reliable family seven-seater that doesn't sacrifice driving joy or interior luxury. It represents excellent value as a mature, well-equipped SUV that is ready for both the daily school run and long-distance regional road trips.
