Summary

This 2022 Nissan Patrol Safari represents the final evolution of the legendary Y61 generation, a model that has earned its icon status through decades of desert dominance. With a manual transmission paired to the high-torque 4.8L VTC engine, it offers a mechanical purity that is increasingly rare in the modern SUV market. Its black exterior is a perennial favorite for resale in the GCC, and at 4 years old, it is seasoned and ready for serious off-road builds or long-distance touring. For the buyer who values bulletproof reliability over fragile electronics, this Safari remains the gold standard for crossing the Empty Quarter or navigating the Hajar Mountains.

This Car vs Other 2022 Patrols

At 145,000 km, this vehicle has been used as a true long-distance cruiser, which is slightly above the typical GCC average for a 4-year-old car but well within the expected duty cycle for the robust TB48 engine. In the local market, these high-mileage examples are often preferred over 'city queens' because they demonstrate the cooling system and drivetrain have been properly exercised. The black-on-black color combination ensures this listing will maintain high demand and strong liquidity when it comes time to trade.

SAFARI vs Lower Trims

The Safari trim is the specific enthusiast choice that adds the heavy-duty 4.8L VTC engine over the smaller 3.0L units found in basic fleet variants. It includes essential GCC hardware like the rear differential lock and the dual-tank system (95L + 40L sub-tank) which are vital for long desert expeditions. Inside, you receive the classic wood-style trim and the factory-integrated cool box, features that provide a necessary touch of comfort during the harsh Middle Eastern summers.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

The primary rival is the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series, which the Patrol beats in terms of high-speed highway stability and cabin space. While the Toyota is more utilitarian, the Patrol Safari offers a more refined interior and a larger standard fuel capacity for extended range between emirates. Buyers also cross-shop the Jeep Wrangler, but the Nissan provides a significantly larger 7-seat layout and superior durability for the extreme heat and fine sand of the Arabian peninsula.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.8L VTC engine typically averages between 16 to 18 L/100km in mixed GCC conditions, reflecting its heavy-duty nature and the frequent use of high-output air conditioning. Maintenance is highly affordable across the region, as Nissan's service network is one of the most extensive in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with parts available in almost every major industrial area. The Safari trim holds its value exceptionally well, typically depreciating at a slower rate than European luxury SUVs due to its high demand in the secondary enthusiast market.

Performance & Capability

The naturally aspirated 4.8L inline-six produces a verified 280 hp and 451 Nm of torque, specifically tuned for low-end grunt required for dune climbing. Its manual transmission allows for precise control in soft sand, a feature highly prized by experienced off-roaders in the region. With solid axles and a part-time 4WD system featuring a low-range transfer case, this vehicle is built to handle terrain that would stop most modern crossovers.

Comfort & Cabin

Despite its rugged exterior, the Safari cabin is designed for long-distance family travel with seven seats and dedicated rear cooling vents that are essential for passenger comfort in 45°C+ temperatures. The inclusion of a factory cool box in the center console allows for chilled beverages during desert trips, a hallmark of GCC-spec Nissans. Cabin insulation is tuned to manage the wind noise typical of long highway stretches between Abu Dhabi and Muscat.

Safety

This Safari comes equipped with standard safety features suited for both city and sand, including dual front SRS airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). The Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) provide extra security during fast highway drives and allow for monitoring tire health after airing down for desert excursions. It also features a factory engine immobilizer for added security in urban environments.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a late-model manual Safari with the legendary 4.8L engine, perfectly suited for a GCC buyer looking for a reliable desert companion that will hold its value for years to come.
