Toyota Land Cruiser GXR3

Highlights

• 700 Nm of torque
• 110-litre fuel tank
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2022 Land Cruiser GXR offers the rare and highly sought-after 3.3L twin-turbo diesel powertrain, providing massive low-end torque for desert excursions and superior fuel range for long cross-border drives. Its silver exterior is one of the strongest resale colors in the UAE, staying cool in the intense summer heat while masking desert dust. Compared to the petrol variants, this diesel model is a specialized choice for high-mileage drivers who prioritize endurance and highway efficiency. With roughly 52,000 km, it sits well below the average usage for a GCC-based workhorse of this age, ensuring significant mechanical life remains. The most critical advantage for a local buyer is the bulletproof combination of Toyota's new TNGA-F platform and the regional parts availability that makes it the most sensible long-term investment in the segment.

This Car vs Other 2022 Land Cruisers

With 52,150 km, this vehicle has been driven approximately 17,000 km per year, which is notably lower than the GCC average of 25,000 km for large SUVs. The silver metallic finish is a high-demand resale color in the regional market, offering better thermal management and easier maintenance than darker shades. Choosing the diesel GXR over the common 4.0L petrol version provides nearly double the torque, making it a far superior choice for towing and sand driving.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim is the preferred mid-range choice in the UAE, adding essential comforts over the base EXR such as power-adjustable seating and upgraded interior trim materials. It bridges the gap between a work vehicle and a luxury cruiser, featuring a larger infotainment display and enhanced climate control systems vital for regional summers. You also benefit from additional parking sensors and a smart key system that are often absent on entry-level fleet specifications.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

The Land Cruiser dominates the Nissan Patrol in fuel range thanks to its 110-litre dual-tank system and the efficiency of the twin-turbo diesel engine. While rivals like the Land Rover Defender offer high tech, the Toyota leads in cooling performance and long-term durability in extreme 50°C heat. The body-on-frame construction provides a level of ruggedness for off-road reliability that monocoque competitors cannot match.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.3L diesel delivers a combined fuel consumption of approximately 8.9L/100km, offering a significant range advantage for long desert trips compared to petrol V6 or V8 models. Maintenance is supported by the most extensive authorized service network in the GCC, ensuring parts availability from Dubai to Salalah. The Land Cruiser maintains the highest resale value in the region, typically retaining over 80% of its value after three years, far outperforming European luxury rivals.

Performance & Capability

Generating a massive 700 Nm of torque from just 1,600 rpm, this diesel V6 provides effortless overtaking on highways and superior crawling power in deep sand. The 10-speed automatic transmission is specifically tuned to keep the engine in its power band, allowing the vehicle to reach 100 km/h in approximately 8 seconds despite its size. It features a full-time 4WD system with a locking center differential and 235 mm of ground clearance, making it a true master of the dunes.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is configured as a spacious 7-seater with a tri-zone climate control system designed to reach every row, maintaining icy temperatures even during peak summer afternoons. Acoustic glass and improved insulation ensure a quiet ride on high-speed Emirates roads, shielding passengers from wind and road noise. The GXR features a cooled center console box, a must-have for keeping beverages cold during long cross-country journeys.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive with a suite of 10 airbags and advanced stability control systems that adapt to both asphalt and loose gravel. Standard features include a high-resolution rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, and Crawl Control to safely manage steep descents and difficult terrain. Toyota’s Pre-Collision System and lane-keeping aids provide extra security during the fast-paced highway commuting common between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The bottom line

This diesel GXR is the ideal match for a GCC buyer seeking a low-mileage, high-torque adventure vehicle that offers the region's best resale value and long-distance range.
