Summary

This 2022 Toyota Prado EXR is a definitive choice for GCC buyers, combining the sought-after 4.0L V6 engine with a reputation for bulletproof durability. With 122,000 km over four years, this vehicle has been driven at a typical rate for highway-heavy UAE use, where long-distance commutes between emirates are common. The white exterior is the most practical and popular choice for the region, offering superior heat reflection and the strongest resale potential in the used market. As an EXR trim, it provides the essential off-road hardware required for desert weekends without the added complexity of higher-tier electronics. For any resident, the primary consideration is the unmatched peace of mind provided by a service network that spans from Abu Dhabi to Muscat.

This Car vs Other 2022 Prados

With 122,000 km on the odometer, this Prado reflects the high-mileage reality of GCC life, where annual averages often reach 30,000 km due to inter-city travel. While some lower-mileage examples exist, this vehicle represents a stable mechanical investment as the 4.0L V6 is just entering its prime operating years. The white paint is a strategic advantage for local buyers, ensuring both a cooler cabin in 50-degree summers and a faster exit at resale.

EXR vs Lower Trims

The EXR serves as the essential V6 entry point, offering a significant performance leap over the 2.7L 4-cylinder variants found in base models. While it maintains a functional interior, it adds key GCC-specific equipment such as the high-output air conditioning system and dual fuel tanks. This trim focuses on mechanical capability, retaining the full-time 4WD system and rear differential locks that define the Prado's off-road heritage.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the Mitsubishi Pajero or Ford Explorer, the Prado leads with its body-on-frame construction and legendary reliability. Its 87-litre fuel capacity is specifically suited for long desert drives and cross-border highway trips where fuel stops can be infrequent. Unlike road-biased crossovers, the Prado maintains a dedicated low-range transfer case, making it a genuine 4x4 capable of handling soft sand and rocky wadis.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.0L V6 typically averages 10.1 km/L, though heavy stop-start city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh may see higher figures. Maintenance is straightforward with 10,000 km service intervals, and parts are readily available at competitive prices throughout the region. The Prado famously enjoys one of the lowest depreciation rates in the GCC, often retaining 60-65% of its value after five years, making it a safe haven for capital.

Performance & Capability

The 271 hp V6 engine provides the necessary torque for highway overtaking and navigating steep dunes that smaller engines struggle with. It features a robust 6-speed automatic transmission paired with a permanent all-wheel-drive system for maximum traction on both gravel and tarmac. With a 215 mm ground clearance and a 30.4-degree approach angle, it is purpose-built for the diverse terrains of the Arabian Peninsula.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the seven-seat configuration is optimized for large families, featuring dedicated rear cooling vents to combat extreme summer heat. The cabin is designed for durability, using high-quality plastics and fabrics that resist sun-load degradation over time. A factory-fitted cool box in the center console is a quintessential GCC luxury, keeping beverages chilled during long summer drives across the desert.

Safety

This Prado is equipped with essential safety systems for regional driving, including stability control for sandy surfaces and a comprehensive airbag system. Anti-lock brakes and electronic brakeforce distribution are standard, providing vital control during fast-moving highway traffic. The high seating position offers excellent visibility, which is particularly useful for spotting hazards in dusty conditions or heavy city congestion.

The bottom line

This 2022 Prado is the ideal match for a family or enthusiast who needs a durable, V6-powered workhorse that holds its value better than almost anything else on the road today.
