Summary

This 2023 Range Rover Sport First Edition is a high-performance SUV that pairs executive refinement with a BMW-sourced 4.4L twin-turbo V8. As a First Edition, it represents a limited-run specification that includes top-tier hardware like all-wheel steering and 23-inch wheels which are often optional on other trims. The black exterior is a perennial favorite for resale in the UAE, maintaining strong demand even as the vehicle ages. While this Canadian-spec model has higher mileage than typical weekend cruisers, it offers a more accessible entry point into the newest generation of Range Rover styling. For the GCC buyer, the standard ventilated seats and quad-zone climate control are essential for managing local summer temperatures.

This Car vs Other 2023 Range Rover Sports

With 75,000 km, this vehicle has been driven more than the average GCC luxury SUV, which typically covers 20,000 km annually. However, this usage is often reflective of long-distance highway commutes between emirates, which can be easier on the powertrain than stop-start city traffic. The black-on-black color scheme remains one of the most liquid configurations for resale in the local market.

FIRST EDITION vs Lower Trims

The First Edition sits above the Autobiography, adding 23-inch forged alloy wheels and a 29-speaker Meridian Signature Sound System as standard. It also includes the Stormer Handling Pack, which provides all-wheel steering and an electronic active differential to improve agility on tight city streets. You also get the highest grade Semi-Aniline leather and unique 'First Edition' etched finishers not found on the SE or HSE models.

Range Rover Sport vs Segment Rivals

The Sport leads the BMW X5 M50i and Porsche Cayenne S in sheer off-road technology, featuring the latest Terrain Response 2 system and a 900mm wading depth. While German rivals focus on track-like handling, the Range Rover offers a superior 23.8-gallon fuel tank, making it better suited for long-range desert highway journeys. The inclusion of a dedicated refrigerator compartment in the center console is a significant advantage for the GCC climate.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.4L V8 averages approximately 11.7 L/100km, though this increases in heavy Riyadh or Dubai traffic. As a Canadian-spec vehicle, it may not carry the balance of a local agency warranty, but major mechanical parts are shared with GCC models, ensuring strong serviceability at specialized workshops. The Range Rover Sport typically sees a 12-15% annual depreciation in the UAE, though First Edition models tend to hold a premium due to their high initial equipment levels.

Performance & Capability

The twin-turbo V8 delivers a formidable 530 hp, launching this SUV to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, which is exceptional for its size. The Dynamic Air Suspension with switchable volume air springs allows the car to lower for highway stability or rise to provide maximum ground clearance for weekend excursions. All-wheel steering significantly reduces the turning circle, making this large SUV surprisingly easy to park in busy mall environments.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary of tech, featuring 22-way power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats with massage functions to combat the summer heat. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated digital climate controls and power-reclining seats, ensuring comfort during long cross-border drives. The Pivi Pro infotainment system is displayed on a 13.1-inch curved glass screen, providing seamless wireless integration for smartphones.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes a 360-degree 3D surround camera with ClearSight Ground View, which is invaluable for avoiding high curbs or navigating tight spaces. The full ADAS suite provides adaptive cruise control with steering assist, high-speed emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring to handle fast-moving highway traffic. It also features a wading sensor that alerts the driver if water depth approaches the vehicle's limits.

The bottom line

This First Edition is the ideal choice for a buyer who wants the flagship V8 experience and highest possible specification without the price tag of a brand-new showroom unit.
