Summary

This 2023 Toyota Fortuner EXR is a highly strategic buy for the GCC market, combining lower-than-average mileage for its age with the region’s most sought-after resale color. As a GCC-spec model, it benefits from a cooling system and air conditioning tuned specifically for extreme desert heat, alongside full compatibility with local authorized service centers. While rivals often transition to complex unibody designs, the Fortuner retains a rugged body-on-frame construction that makes it exceptionally durable for both city commutes and weekend desert excursions. For a buyer seeking the ultimate balance of utility and legendary Toyota reliability, this nearly-new example offers significant value retention potential. It remains the default choice for families who need seven seats and genuine off-road capability without the massive footprint of a full-size SUV.

This Car vs Other 2023 Fortuners

With just 37,999 km on the odometer, this vehicle sits well below the typical GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km, representing a significant mechanical advantage. Its white exterior is the highest-demand color in the regional used market, ensuring the fastest turnaround and strongest price anchoring at resale. Choosing this low-mileage GCC-spec example provides peace of mind that a gray-import or high-usage fleet vehicle simply cannot match.

EXR vs Lower Trims

The EXR trim serves as the essential gateway to the Fortuner’s 4WD lineup, offering a significant upgrade over 2WD base variants found in other markets. It features the 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, along with cruise control and rear parking sensors that are critical for long UAE highway drives. Unlike base commercial specs, the EXR includes the 4.2-inch color TFT driver display and 17-inch alloy wheels that bridge the gap between utility and family comfort.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

The Fortuner leads its segment in pure mechanical durability, standing tall against unibody rivals like the Mitsubishi Outlander or Nissan X-Trail by utilizing a toughened ladder-frame chassis. Its 80-litre fuel tank provides a superior cruising range for cross-border trips or long stretches between service stations in the desert. While competitors focus on soft-road tech, the Toyota offers a proven part-time 4WD system with a low-range transfer case for genuine off-road exploration.

Running Costs & Resale

Toyota holds the highest value retention in the UAE, typically retaining approximately 87% of its value after the first year and 65% after three years. The 2.7L powertrain is designed for longevity and is compatible with widely available fuel grades across the Emirates and Saudi Arabia. With one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the world, parts are affordable and maintenance can be performed at any major center from Dubai to Muscat. Real-world fuel consumption averages around 10.4 to 12.1 L/100km depending on the mix of stop-start city traffic and high-speed highway cruising.

Performance & Capability

The 2.7L engine delivers a reliable 164 hp, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission that is tuned for smooth power delivery rather than frantic acceleration. Its 225 mm ground clearance and 29-degree approach angle allow it to clear obstacles that would stop most crossovers, making it a favorite for light dune bashing and wadi exploration. The selectable 4WD system allows you to switch to 2WD for better fuel efficiency on the highway, while the low-range gear set provides the torque needed for steep inclines or soft sand.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is highly versatile, with a third row that can be folded to the side to create a flat loading floor for camping gear or large grocery hauls. Toyota’s legendary air conditioning system features dedicated rear vents to ensure all three rows stay cool during the peak of the GCC summer. The cabin is finished with durable materials designed to withstand the fine desert dust and high UV exposure typical of the region, ensuring the interior looks fresh for years to come.

Safety

Standard safety features on this EXR trim include dual front airbags and a driver’s knee airbag, providing essential protection for the most critical areas. Active safety is managed by Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist, and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), which are particularly effective on loose sand or gravel surfaces. The inclusion of ISOFIX child seat anchors and a tire pressure monitoring system makes it a secure and responsible choice for growing families.

The bottom line

This is the ideal opportunity for a family or professional seeking a low-mileage, GCC-spec SUV that will hold its value better than almost anything else on the road. It offers the perfect mix of daily urban practicality and the ruggedness required for the unique driving landscape of the Middle East.
