Summary

This 2024 Ford Everest XLS is a compelling option for those seeking a modern seven-seat SUV with a healthy balance of mileage and age. Finished in a practical grey that maintains strong resale appeal in the UAE market, this GCC-spec vehicle offers a significant feature set compared to base rivals in the segment. The XLS trim serves as a robust entry point into Ford’s latest SUV lineup, blending the rugged capability of the Ranger platform with the refinement required for a family daily driver. For GCC owners, the most important consideration is its mechanical suitability for extreme temperatures, supported by a massive 800mm wading depth for localized flooding and a powerful turbocharged EcoBoost engine for effortless highway cruising.

This Car vs Other 2024 Everests

With 38,043 km on the odometer, this Everest sits comfortably within the average annual mileage range for the GCC, where 20,000–25,000 km per year is typical due to long-distance highway travel between emirates. The grey exterior is a neutral, high-demand color in the local market, ensuring better value retention compared to louder shades. As a recent model year vehicle, it remains under the primary portion of its mechanical lifespan, offering a fresh ownership experience at a used market entry point.

XLS vs Lower Trims

The XLS serves as the entry trim for the next-generation Everest but still includes essentials that GCC buyers prioritize, such as the 10.1-inch vertical touchscreen and the 8-inch digital instrument cluster. It offers the same potent 2.3L EcoBoost engine and 10-speed transmission found in higher trims, ensuring no compromise on performance. While stepping up to the XLT would add leatherette seating and front parking sensors, the XLS remains the smarter choice for those prioritizing the vehicle's core mechanical capability and 4x4 hardware.

Everest vs Segment Rivals

The Everest leads rivals like the Toyota Fortuner and Nissan Xterra in terms of cabin technology and on-road refinement, utilizing a chassis that feels more 'car-like' despite its rugged ladder-frame origins. Its 80-litre fuel tank is specifically advantageous for long-distance desert drives, offering superior range compared to some mid-size crossovers. Furthermore, the 296 hp output from the turbocharged 2.3L engine provides significantly more punch for highway overtaking than the naturally aspirated units found in many competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.3L EcoBoost averages around 7.9 L/100km on the highway, though this will increase in stop-start city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. Ford’s authorized service network is extensive across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring easy access to parts and specialized maintenance. While the Everest traditionally depreciates slightly faster than the Toyota Prado, its strong feature list and GCC-spec status help it retain roughly 70-75% of its value within the first two years of ownership.

Performance & Capability

The Everest is defined by its 420 Nm of torque, which allows for a braked towing capacity of up to 3,100 kg, making it a capable workhorse for weekend hauling. Its 227 mm ground clearance and selectable drive modes provide genuine confidence for desert excursions and off-road trails. On the highway, the 10-speed automatic transmission keeps the engine in its power band, ensuring smooth delivery and stable cruising at maximum permitted speeds.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is designed with family logistics in mind, featuring rear climate control vents that are essential for maintaining comfort during the peak GCC summer. The cabin is well-insulated from external heat and road noise, providing a quiet environment for long road trips across the emirates. Technology highlights include wireless smartphone integration through the large vertical display, allowing for seamless navigation and media control.

Safety

This Everest comes equipped with six airbags and a suite of active safety features including electronic stability control and traction control, which are vital for maintaining grip on sand-dusted roads. Standard rear parking sensors and a high-definition rearview camera assist in navigating tight urban parking spaces, while the robust ladder-frame construction provides a high level of passive protection. It has also achieved a 5-star ANCAP safety rating, giving families peace of mind on high-speed highways.

The bottom line

For the GCC family that needs a balance of weekend adventure and weekday school runs, this GCC-spec 2024 Everest XLS offers a modern, tech-forward alternative to aging segment staples.
