Summary

This 2024 GAC GS8 in flagship GX trim offers a compelling alternative to Japanese family SUVs, providing a level of tech-forward luxury that typically costs significantly more. With its All Wheel Drive system and 248 horsepower, it delivers steady performance whether you are navigating the E11 between Dubai and Abu Dhabi or taking a weekend trip to the Northern Emirates. The Grey exterior is a versatile choice for the GCC market, offering better heat reflection than darker tones while maintaining strong resale appeal. At two years old with average mileage for the region, this vehicle is well-positioned for its next owner. The GX trim ensures you get the full flagship experience, including critical summer comforts like ventilated seats and a high-resolution surround-view camera.

This Car vs Other 2024 GS8s

With 51,842 km over two years of use, this car's mileage is exactly in line with the typical GCC average of 25,000 km per year. Given that many family SUVs in the region are used for heavy school runs and inter-city commutes, this example shows consistent, expected usage. The Grey metallic paint is a high-demand, practical choice for current UAE driving conditions and future resale.

GX vs Lower Trims

The GX is the top-tier petrol trim, adding critical features over the GL and GT models that define the premium GCC ownership experience. You benefit from a more advanced All Wheel Drive system for improved highway stability and light trail use, alongside a 360-degree camera for easier parking in tight urban spaces. Most importantly, the GX includes ventilated front seats, a feature that moves from a luxury to a necessity during the intense UAE summer months.

GS8 vs Segment Rivals

The GS8 competes directly with the Toyota Highlander and Kia Telluride, standing out by offering a higher standard equipment list at a more accessible entry point. Its 2.0-litre turbocharged engine delivers 400 Nm of torque, which provides a more progressive pull than some naturally aspirated rivals. For long-distance drives across the GCC, the spacious cabin and 66-litre fuel tank provide a touring range that rivals much larger, more expensive SUVs.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the GS8 averages approximately 12.5 km/L, though this varies in GCC stop-start city traffic. GAC's authorized service network, led by distributors like Gargash in the UAE, is well-established with parts readily available across major cities. While European luxury brands see faster depreciation, the GS8 has shown strong value retention in the GCC used market, typically holding roughly 70% of its value after three years. Routine maintenance is recommended every 10,000 km or 6 months to ensure mechanical longevity in the local climate.

Performance & Capability

The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine produces 248 horsepower, paired with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission that is tuned for comfort over raw speed. All Wheel Drive comes standard on this GX trim, providing added confidence on dusty slip roads or during occasional heavy rain in the winter months. With 200 mm of ground clearance, it easily manages the tall speed bumps and gravel surfaces often found in suburban residential areas across the region.

Comfort & Cabin

This seven-seater is designed for family logistics, featuring a tri-zone climate control system that ensures passengers in the third row receive dedicated cooling. The cabin is insulated well against exterior road noise, making it a refined environment for long highway stretches. Premium leather surfaces and a panoramic sunroof add a bright, open feel to the interior, while the ventilated seating ensures you arrive at your destination refreshed even in 45°C heat.

Safety

The GX trim is equipped with a full ADAS suite, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, which are particularly helpful for reducing fatigue on the long desert highways between emirates. You also get blind-spot monitoring to navigate fast-moving multi-lane traffic and 360-degree cameras to eliminate visibility gaps. Active safety systems like electronic stability control and multiple airbags provide a robust safety net for the entire family.

The bottom line

This 2024 GX is the ideal choice for a tech-savvy family in the GCC looking for flagship features and seven-seat practicality without the premium price tag of a Japanese equivalent.
