Summary

This 2024 Land Rover Defender 90 S P300 represents a strategic buy in the GCC market, offering the iconic short-wheelbase silhouette with manageable 2.0L running costs. The black exterior is a high-demand choice locally, ensuring stronger resale liquidity compared to niche colors. As a 2024 model with roughly 49,000 km, it has already cleared the steepest part of its initial depreciation curve while remaining mechanically modern. This specific short-body configuration is highly prized by urban professionals and weekend explorers who value its tighter turning circle and easier parking in cities like Dubai and Riyadh. For a GCC buyer, this P300 provides the perfect balance of rugged capability and daily drivability.

This Car vs Other 2024 Defender 90s

At 49,113 km, this vehicle's mileage is slightly above the regional average for a one-year-old car, which typically ranges from 20,000 to 25,000 km in the highway-heavy GCC environment. However, this is offset by the highly desirable black exterior, which consistently commands a premium in the local used market. The American specification often results in a more competitive entry price compared to GCC-spec units, making it an accessible route into the latest generation L663 Defender.

S P300 vs Lower Trims

The S trim is a significant step up from the base model, introducing the 10-speaker 400W Meridian sound system and grain leather 12-way semi-powered heated seats. GCC buyers will particularly appreciate the inclusion of the 3D Surround Camera and Adaptive Cruise Control, which are essential for navigating multi-lane highway traffic. It also upgrades the cabin with the Interactive Driver Display, replacing traditional dials with a high-definition digital cockpit.

Defender 90 vs Segment Rivals

The Defender 90 leads the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon in interior refinement and highway composure, utilizing a stiff D7x aluminum unibody that eliminates the wind noise typical of body-on-frame rivals. Compared to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Defender 90 offers superior technical wading depth at 900 mm and a more advanced Pivi Pro infotainment interface. Its 90-liter fuel tank is specifically advantageous for long-distance desert transits where fuel stops are infrequent.

Running Costs & Resale

The P300 2.0L engine is the most efficient petrol option in the lineup, avoiding the higher fuel consumption of the MHEV six-cylinder during city idling. Service intervals for Land Rover in the UAE and Saudi Arabia are typically every 13,000 km or 12 months, with an extensive network of authorized centers including Al Tayer Motors and Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors. While European SUVs generally depreciate faster than Japanese 4x4s, the Defender 90 maintains a strong residual floor due to its cult status and high demand for the three-door body style.

Performance & Capability

The P300 powertrain delivers 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in approximately 7.1 seconds. This agility is paired with a twin-speed transfer box for low-range crawling, making it a genuine off-road tool for weekend desert adventures. Its short wheelbase provides a superior breakover angle compared to the longer 110 model, allowing it to navigate sharp dune crests and technical rocky terrain with ease.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is engineered for the extreme GCC summer, featuring a robust dual-zone climate control system and high-quality insulation. The 5-seat layout provides surprising legroom for a three-door vehicle, while the premium Meridian audio system ensures a refined environment on long drives across the Emirates. Standard privacy glass and the sliding panoramic roof help manage cabin heat while providing an airy feel to the interior.

Safety

This Defender 90 S comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including 3D Surround Camera, Blind Spot Assist, and Lane Keep Assist, which are vital for safety on high-speed regional highways. The vehicle features six airbags and advanced electronic aids like Trailer Stability Assist and Wade Sensing, ensuring the driver is protected both in heavy city traffic and during off-road excursions.

The bottom line

This 2024 Defender 90 S is the ideal choice for a buyer who wants the latest Land Rover technology and iconic styling without the premium price of a V8 or a local-spec markup. It is a capable, head-turning SUV that is equally at home on a city boulevard or a desert trail.
