Summary

This 2024 Fortuner EXR offers a balanced entry into the region's most trusted SUV family, featuring the resilient 2.7L powertrain ideal for urban commuting and weekend getaways. With 61,339 km on the clock, its usage reflects the higher annual distances typical for GCC highway driving while benefiting from Toyota's legendary durability. The EXR trim provides essential modern tech like Apple CarPlay and a rearview camera without the complexity of higher-tier electronics. It stands out from monocoque rivals by using a rugged body-on-frame chassis that handles high summer temperatures and rougher terrain with ease. For a buyer in the UAE or wider Gulf, this is a sensible choice that prioritizes long-term mechanical reliability and strong resale value.

This Car vs Other 2024 Fortuners

At 61,339 km, this vehicle's mileage is average for a two-year-old car in the GCC, where annual driving often hits 30,000 km due to frequent inter-city highway travel. The exterior color is a neutral choice that performs well under the intense Gulf sun and maintains high demand in the local secondary market. Compared to high-mileage fleet examples, this privately used unit offers a more predictable maintenance history.

EXR vs Lower Trims

The EXR serves as the primary entry point for the GCC market, offering a significant jump in daily usability over base commercial variants by including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also adds crucial convenience features for the local climate, such as rear cooling vents and cruise control, which are essential for long desert highway drives.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

While rivals like the Mitsubishi Montero Sport or Nissan Pathfinder offer different tech suites, the Fortuner leads in pure mechanical simplicity and regional parts availability. Its 80-litre fuel tank provides a superior cruising range for long-distance travel between emirates compared to many smaller-tanked crossovers. The body-on-frame construction ensures it remains more durable than unibody competitors when venturing onto gravel tracks or light sand.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.7L engine is designed for efficiency in GCC stop-start traffic, typically returning between 10.4 and 12.1 L/100km depending on load and AC usage. Toyota maintains the strongest resale value in the UAE market, with the Fortuner historically retaining approximately 73% of its value after three years. Service intervals are standard every 10,000 km, supported by the most extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.

Performance & Capability

With 225 mm of ground clearance, this Fortuner is purpose-built to clear obstacles that would stop a standard crossover. The 2.7L four-cylinder engine produces 164 hp, providing a reliable and steady power delivery suited for city lanes and maintained highways. Its part-time 4WD system with a dedicated low-range transfer case allows for genuine off-road exploration during weekend camping trips.

Comfort & Cabin

This 7-seater features a versatile cabin layout where the third row can be folded to the sides to reveal up to 716 litres of cargo space. The dual-zone air conditioning system is specifically engineered for the 45 degree-plus GCC summers, featuring dedicated vents for all three rows to ensure rapid cooling. Fabric seating is a practical choice for the heat, staying significantly cooler than leather when parked outdoors.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the EXR trim includes dual front airbags and a driver's knee airbag, totaling three essential points of protection. Active systems such as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control, and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) provide stability on slippery or inclined surfaces. The inclusion of a rearview camera and parking sensors as standard makes navigating tight urban parking spaces much safer for a vehicle of this size.

The bottom line

This Fortuner EXR is the ideal match for a family or professional seeking a two-year-old SUV that balances daily UAE commuting with genuine weekend capability and the market's best value retention.
