Summary

This 2026 Toyota Fortuner EXR represents the gold standard for reliable family transport in the GCC, offering a perfect balance between daily urban utility and weekend desert capability. The black exterior is a high-demand choice in the local market, ensuring excellent resale liquidity and long-term value retention. As an EXR trim with the 2.7L engine, it provides a more fuel-efficient entry point into the legendary Fortuner lineup compared to the larger V6 variants. Its 7-seat configuration and robust 4WD system make it uniquely suited for the region's mixed driving conditions, from fast-moving city highways to sandy recreational tracks. For a buyer seeking the ultimate peace of mind, the combination of Toyota’s durability and widespread parts availability remains unbeatable.

This Car vs Other 2026 Fortuners

With zero mileage, this 2026 model offers a significant advantage over high-use examples typically found in the GCC market. The black paintwork is one of the top three colors for resale in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, providing better value protection than less common shades. Choosing the 2.7L EXR over the 4.0L V6 ensures lower annual insurance premiums and reduced fuel costs for city-heavy commutes.

EXR vs Lower Trims

The EXR trim serves as the essential upgrade over base fleet variants, introducing 17-inch alloy wheels and a modern 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Crucially for GCC families, it includes rear air conditioning vents and a dedicated cooling system for the second and third rows. It also adds cruise control and a multi-information display, features that significantly improve comfort during long inter-city drives across the Emirates.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

The Fortuner leads the Ford Everest and Mitsubishi Montero Sport in terms of regional service footprint, with authorized centers in every major GCC city. Its body-on-frame construction is inherently more durable than monocoque rivals like the Hyundai Santa Fe when tackling desert terrain. Additionally, the 80-litre fuel tank provides a superior driving range, essential for long-distance travel between regional hubs like Dubai and Riyadh.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7L engine typically ranges between 10.4 and 12.4 L/100km, depending on the intensity of summer AC usage in GCC traffic. Maintenance is exceptionally straightforward, with service intervals every 10,000 km at a network that spans the entire region. The Fortuner holds its value better than almost any other SUV in its class, often retaining over 85% of its value after the first three years in the local market.

Performance & Capability

The 164 hp 2.7L engine is paired with a part-time 4WD system and a 6-speed automatic transmission designed for longevity in high-temperature environments. A standout 279 mm maximum ground clearance allows this SUV to navigate deep sand and rough wadi paths that would stop road-biased crossovers. While focused on durability, the automatic gearbox is tuned for smooth highway overtaking, making it a capable companion for family road trips across the UAE.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is configured as a versatile 7-seater with fabric upholstery that remains cooler than leather during extreme GCC summers. Tri-zone climate control ensures that even passengers in the third row stay comfortable when temperatures exceed 45°C. The interior features practical touches like a cooled upper glovebox and an 8-inch display that integrates seamlessly with smartphones for navigation and media.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the EXR trim includes dual front airbags and a driver’s knee airbag, providing essential protection for all occupants. The vehicle is equipped with electronic stability control and traction control, which are vital for maintaining composure on both slick wet tarmac and loose gravel surfaces. Rear parking sensors and a reinforced ladder-frame chassis further enhance the security and confidence of the driver in varied GCC environments.

The bottom line

This 2026 Fortuner EXR is the ideal choice for a GCC buyer who prioritizes long-term reliability and high resale value above all else. It offers a new-car experience in a high-demand color, ready to handle everything from the school run to desert exploration.
