Summary

This 2026 Toyota Fortuner EXR is a practical choice for GCC families, offering the ideal balance between urban efficiency and the ruggedness required for weekend adventures. Being brand new, it sidesteps the usual high-mileage concerns of the used market while benefitting from Toyota's legendary reliability and parts availability across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The black exterior is a timeless professional choice that maintains strong demand in the regional resale market. This 2.7L variant is particularly sought after for its lower insurance brackets and better fuel economy compared to the V6, making it a sensible daily driver. For any long-term owner in the Gulf, the combination of a robust 4WD system and a 7-seat cabin provides unmatched utility for the price.

This Car vs Other 2026 Fortuners

As a zero-kilometer 2026 model, this vehicle represents the current standard for the generation with full manufacturer warranty support. Compared to typical used examples that quickly accumulate 25,000 km annually on GCC highways, this car offers a fresh mechanical start. The black finish is a high-demand resale color in the region, often easier to trade in or sell privately than more niche metallic shades.

EXR vs Lower Trims

The EXR serves as the essential 4WD entry point, providing the critical hardware like the low-range transfer case that isn't found on 2WD base models. It includes 17-inch alloy wheels and a modern 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring the cabin remains connected. Unlike more basic work-spec variants, the EXR features a multi-function steering wheel and cruise control, which are vital for comfort on long drives between cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

The Fortuner leads its class in pure durability, utilizing a body-on-frame chassis shared with the Hilux, which gives it a significant edge over monocoque rivals like the Nissan Pathfinder when driving on sand or gravel. Its 80-litre fuel tank is specifically designed for the vast distances of the GCC, offering a longer cruising range than the Mitsubishi Montero Sport. While some competitors focus on soft-road comfort, the Toyota remains the go-to for those who value mechanical simplicity and the widest service network in the Middle East.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.7L engine is designed to run efficiently on 95-octane petrol, with real-world fuel consumption averaging around 10.4 km/L, which is excellent for a vehicle of this size in stop-start city traffic. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and with one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the GCC, maintenance is convenient in any emirate. The Fortuner notoriously holds about 65-70% of its value after three years, significantly outperforming the segment average for depreciation.

Performance & Capability

With 220 mm of ground clearance and a selectable part-time 4WD system, the Fortuner is more than capable of handling desert dunes and rocky wadis. The 164 hp engine is paired with a smooth 6-speed automatic transmission, providing steady power delivery suitable for heavy loads and family trips. While it is built for durability over raw speed, it maintains a top speed of 180 km/h, ensuring confident highway cruising at regional speed limits.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is highly versatile, with a one-touch tumble second row and third-row seats that fold to the side to accommodate large cargo. Essential for the GCC climate, the EXR comes equipped with a powerful air conditioning system featuring dedicated ceiling-mounted vents for both the second and third rows to ensure all passengers stay cool in 45°C heat. The fabric upholstery is a practical choice for the region, as it remains significantly cooler to the touch than leather after being parked in the sun.

Safety

Standard safety features on the EXR include dual front airbags and a driver’s knee airbag, providing essential protection for all occupants. The vehicle is equipped with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control, which are particularly helpful when navigating loose sand or sudden summer rainstorms. Rear parking sensors and a tire pressure monitoring system come standard, adding layers of convenience and safety for daily urban use.

The bottom line

For the buyer who needs a dependable, 7-seat SUV that will hold its value for years to come, this brand-new 2026 Fortuner EXR is the safest investment in the GCC market.
