2017 Hyundai i30 N spied out in the open

Volkswagen’s potent Golf GTi is the go to hot hatch, but soon it could come under fire from one South Korean manufacturer whose very own hot hatch that has been speculated for some time has been caught testing in Europe.

Although it’s drenched in heavy camo (and hauling a trailer), Hyundai will offer customers two choices for their i30 N; standard and performance pack. While the standard model will appear sporty, upgraded packages have larger air intakes at the front, fixed rear spoiler, dual exhaust system, larger rims and brakes not to mention a body kit.

Underneath the bonnet is a new turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine exerting around 260 horsepower, while 0-100 km/h and top speed remain unknown, it certainly won’t fall short compared to the GTi

These South Korean hot hatches are destined for Paris Auto show later this year with presumably less camo than in the pictures below. It’s due on sale in early 2017 with an unknown price tag.

Once launched, the i30 N will be the first production model to roll out for the N division and will test the waters for future models as it is the only one confirmed as of now. Manual fanatics will be happy to know that the model will launch with a six-speed manual gearbox. Further though the production a double-clutch automatic will be made available.

Sources claim that this hot hatch produces quite a bit of grunt. If true, that would keep VW perked up and possibly strike back with an upgraded package.
