All-New 2027 Hyundai Tucson Revealed: First Look At The Bigger, Boxier SUV

Hyundai has revealed the all-new 2027 Hyundai Tucson, which receives a complete exterior and interior redesign. It grows in almost every direction and prepares for a stronger move toward hybrid power.

Its design is considerably more rugged than before, while the larger body should improve passenger space and practicality. Hyundai has not yet released the complete engine range, performance figures or pricing, with further details expected when the SUV goes on sale in South Korea later in 2026. International markets are expected to follow in 2027.

What Has Changed On The 2027 Hyundai Tucson?

The fifth-generation Tucson introduces one of the biggest styling changes the SUV has seen. Hyundai has moved toward its newer Art of Steel design direction, replacing the previous Tucson’s complex Parametric Dynamics styling with a boxier, more upright appearance.

At the front, the SUV uses a wide horizontal lighting signature combined with vertically positioned lighting elements. More pronounced wheel arches, straighter body panels and a flatter bonnet give it a stronger SUV stance.

The rear follows a similar theme with a wide lighting arrangement and angular details. Overall, the new Tucson looks considerably more rugged than the outgoing model.

How Big Is The New Hyundai Tucson?

Size is another major part of the redesign.

The new Tucson is 60mm longer and 40mm wider, while the wheelbase has increased by 30mm. Height has also increased by 20mm. These changes should translate into more usable cabin space. 

Rear headroom has increased by 29mm, while the rear doors can now open to 83 degrees, up from 73 degrees. That wider opening should make entering the second row easier and could also help families when installing child seats.

What Is New Inside The 2027 Tucson?

The cabin has been completely redesigned. Instead of placing multiple large displays directly in front of the driver, Hyundai has adopted a wide horizontal dashboard with a large central infotainment screen and a separate slim driver display positioned high on the dashboard.

The production cabin also keeps several physical controls below the infotainment display rather than moving every function into the touchscreen.

Other changes include a new steering wheel, a redesigned centre console, a column-mounted gear selector, additional storage areas, and a cleaner overall dashboard layout.

Pre-production prototypes previously suggested that the Tucson could receive a 17-inch infotainment display, although Hyundai has not officially confirmed the production screen size.

Will The 2027 Hyundai Tucson Be A Hybrid?

Electrification is expected to play a much bigger role in the new Tucson. Hyundai has not announced the final engine range, but the company has already confirmed that future hybrid models will use its next-generation hybrid system. The technology combines a new transmission with two integrated electric motors instead of relying on a single main motor.

One is a P1 motor, which assists with starting the petrol engine, generates electricity, and supports propulsion. The second P2 motor handles propulsion and regenerative braking. Hyundai says this arrangement allows better efficiency, smoother engine engagement and improved performance.

Importantly for the Tucson, Hyundai has also confirmed development of a next-generation 1.6-litre turbo hybrid powertrain. Hyundai says the newer 1.6 hybrid system can increase maximum torque from 367Nm to 380Nm, while improving fuel efficiency by more than four per cent in a midsize SUV application. The final Tucson system output has not been announced.

Expected 2027 Tucson Powertrain Line-Up

The existing Tucson Hybrid already combines a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor. Depending on market specification, the current system produces around 231hp.

The next generation is therefore expected to improve efficiency, responsiveness and electrified driving rather than simply adding considerably more engine power.

Could The New Tucson PHEV Offer Around 100km Of EV Range?

This could be one of the biggest technical upgrades. Several development reports claim Hyundai is targeting approximately 100km of electric-only driving for the next Tucson Plug-in Hybrid.

That would be a major improvement over the current Tucson PHEV. For comparison, the 2026 US-spec model uses a 13.8kWh battery and offers an EPA-rated electric range of around 51km. Its 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine and electric motor produce a combined 268hp.

If the reported 100km target reaches production, it could allow many UAE owners to complete daily city journeys largely on electric power while retaining a petrol engine for longer drives between emirates. However, Hyundai has not yet confirmed the new Tucson PHEV’s battery capacity, electric motor output or official EV range.

What Other Hybrid Technology Could The Tucson Get?

Hyundai’s new hybrid platform introduces several technologies normally associated with EVs. These include Smart Regenerative Braking, which can adjust regeneration using navigation and traffic information, along with predictive energy management that determines when the vehicle should use electric power, hybrid assistance or regenerative braking.

Hyundai has also developed an e-AWD system that adds another electric motor to the rear axle. The system can independently control torque between the front and rear wheels.

Other technology available within Hyundai’s new hybrid architecture includes:

• Vehicle-to-Load functionality
• Stay Mode
• Electrified ride control
• Electrified handling assistance

Not every feature has been confirmed for the Tucson, but the new hybrid platform lets Hyundai introduce them depending on the variant and market.

What About The Tucson XRT And Tucson N?

Hyundai has confirmed a tougher Tucson XRT, featuring black body cladding, unique wheels, revised bumpers and more rugged styling. Hyundai has not yet announced detailed off-road upgrades.

A full Tucson N remains unconfirmed, but reports suggest Hyundai could develop a high-performance hybrid version with over 300hp and AWD. If approved, it would sit above the XRT and focus more on road performance than rugged styling.

When Will The 2027 Hyundai Tucson Launch In The UAE?

Hyundai has not confirmed a UAE launch date or price. The new Tucson is expected to go on sale first in South Korea later in 2026, followed by additional international markets during 2027.

UAE specifications could also differ from Korean, European and North American models. Hyundai currently offers several Tucson powertrain configurations across different markets, so the exact engines selected for the Middle East will only become clear closer to launch.

For UAE buyers, the next Tucson is shaping up to be a key rival to the Toyota RAV4, Kia Sportage, Honda CR-V, Nissan X-Trail and Volkswagen Tiguan.

Is The New Hyundai Tucson Worth Waiting For?

The fifth-generation Tucson is shaping up to be much more than a styling update. It is larger, more spacious and considerably more rugged in appearance, while Hyundai’s new-generation hybrid technology could bring meaningful improvements in performance and efficiency.

The reported 100km PHEV electric range could be particularly significant if it reaches production, putting the Tucson closer to newer plug-in hybrid SUVs entering the UAE from Chinese manufacturers.
