2017 Porsche 911 GT3’s manual box available at no extra cost

After we and the rest of the motoring community got wind that the 2017 Porsche 911 GT3 can be had with a manual gearbox instead of the automatic box, we rejoiced immensely. Now we have an even bigger reason to celebrate.

What is it this time? A manual Panamera? Don’t be silly. 2017 Porsche 911 GT3 models manual gearbox is available at no extra cost! Alongside the standard seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

With the manual box used for shifting, you shave 16.7 kilos in weight. However, it does come at a price. Instead of zipping from 0-100 in 3.2 seconds like the DCT, manual boxes accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. On the plus side, it’s top speed is 318 km/h.

There are no changes to the 4-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor which remains with 500 horsepower and 458 Nm or torque.

A common practice in the auto industry is to charge different prices to consumers buying a manual or auto gearbox.  But Porsche is trying something by charging $143,600 or AED 527,450 in the US for both transmissions.

It’s unknown when both transmissions will be available for the 2017 Porsche 911 GT3 in the UAE. We expect it to debut later this year.

Manual boxes are few and far between during this current car generation with only a handful of manufacturers still offering a third pedal. This includes Porsche and Aston Martin, whereas the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini have completely shut out the idea.

Until then, we’ve got automatic new Porsche 911 and used Porsche 911 for sale in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

Note: Porsche 911 GT3 automatic show.
