2018 Audi A8 caught with minimal cover

With summer on the way, there are a couple of weeks before the summer drought kicks in. Just in the nick of time, spy photographers have caught a glimpse of the 2018 Audi A8 being put through its paces.

Upon further inspection, the 2018 Audi A8 is pretty much camo free except some dark tape surrounding the headlights,  taillights and front grille.

But that doesn’t stop us from noticing what’s fresh from the German brand. The front grille may be masked. However, it’s wider and pointer than previous versions giving the upscale sedan a prominent face.

Based on the MLB-Evo platform that is used by the Q7 and other Volkswagen derived vehicles, 2018 Audi A8’s will ship with a lightweight shell comprised of four unique materials. Moulded from carbon fibre, aluminium, steel and magnesium, even though it sounds light, the executive sedan actually weighs in 50 kilos heavier but is much stiffer than 2017 models.

The weight increase is due to tougher regulations regarding safety in select regions and the introduction of a hybrid powertrain.

There are also persistent rumours 2018 Audi A8 sedans will ship with a broad range of semi-autonomous features to keep up with 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class models and other rivals.

Audi has confirmed we’ll see more of the 2018 Audi A8 on July 11th with a wide selection of engines including petrol, diesel and PHEV.
