2018 Rolls Royce Phantom spotted

A common practice for auto manufacturers when it comes to test is to cover their latest vehicles in an eye-straining black and white shield in order to conceal what’s new. As is the case with the 2018 Rolls Royce as it’s been spotted putting in the miles in Spain.

Unlike any Rolls-Royce spy shot we’ve seen before, this 2018 specced model has a trailer hitched to the rear end. Now this could mean a few things including an increase of power over the current generations. As it is still unknown what engine powers this creation, sources indicate that a V12-petrol engine is likely to return aided with turbochargers. It’s also rumoured that a plug-in hybrid version is on the way.

Another reason the British brand could be testing a 2018 model with a heavy load attached could be them testing their upcoming SUV or project Cullinan. And I know what you’re thinking, this is a sedan body type rolling around. However, Rolls-Royce has already commenced testing for the four-wheel drive using a similar chassis.

Next-gen Phantom models are to utilise large quantities of aluminium to lighten the load. By using the lightweight material, 130 kilos is dropped from the two-tonne beast.

Inside, two digital displays instantly stick out even though the interior is incomplete. They will display dashboard instruments and media options and are to kitted out with the latest BMW technology including autonomous drive modes and gesture controls.
