2019 Challenger debuts, Hellcat gets 717 horsepower and new Redeye trim

Just before the weekend started, Dodge teased the 2019 Challenger lineup. With a confusing message and a Challenger drifting in the distance, the 2019 Challenger has broken cover with a new bonnet, new trim levels and more power.

Available in no less than eight unique trim levels, with the Demon now out of production, there’s a new player in town. The Challenger Hellcat Redeye borrows heavily from the discontinued two-door including the enhanced 6.2-litre V8 with a 2.7-litre supercharger, strengthened pistons and upgraded fuel injection system. Whereas the Demon produced a whopping 840 horsepower, the Hellcat Redeye produces are moderate yet aggressive 797 horsepower and 957 Nm of torque.

Exclusively mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, the 2019 Challenger Hellcat Redeye launches from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds before maxing out at 326 km/h. It also comes with a new badge stuck to the vehicle which is identical to the Hellcat badge just with a red eye.

There’s a 2019 Challenger for all walks of life

Just in case the 797 is too much, after the Hellcat Redeye sits the Challenger SRT Hellcat which now produces 717 hp and 888 Nm of torque a slight increase of 10 hp compared to the current model. Next up is the Challenger R/T Scat Pack fitted with a bellowing 6.4-litre V8 of its own rated at 485 hp and 643 Nm of torque.

If the displacement is too much but a V8 is still your thing, the 2019 Challenger R/T is next up with a 5.7-litre HEMI V8 producing 375 horses and 555 Nm of torque.

New for 2019 is the GT RWD and AWD trim levels. As standard, the GT is fitted with a Super Track Pak which includes a performance suspension system, 20-inch Granite Crystal painted rims, sculpted bonnet and front splitter, but that’s not all. Inside, this variant gets Houndstooth seats and paddle shifters. The GT is fitted with a 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine rated at 305 hp and 363 Nm of torque.

At the very bottom of the food chain is the entry-level version or SXT RWD which is powered by the same engine as the GT and it too can be fitted with AWD.

The 2019 Challenger will arrive later this year or early 2019.
