RTA introduce reserved parking spaces

Don’t you just hate it when you arrive somewhere and there isn’t a single space available for you to park in? Dubai Roads and Transport Authority have created new parking spaces which allow motorists to reserve them to ensure they are empty when they arrive.

In order to reserve a space, motorists will have to download the RTA Dubai mobile app on their smartphone and log in (or register). By navigating the app and selecting the Parking tab (Second option down), users will be shown an interactive map displaying what parking slots are available in each area.

These select locations are marked with *SPR and are highlighted in yellow.

As of writing, users can reserve a parking space in one of two areas; Dubai Marina and Media City. Just six slots are available to reserve in each locale.

Each hour is AED 10 and every subsequent hour is another AED 10. In order to pay for the parking spaces, users must have enough funds in their account.

“Users of the app know that the vehicle details are already stored in the app, which will be used to book a slot in the zone required.” Explained Osama Al Safi, Director of Parking at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.

He also explained that the “misuse of the slots or parking at the spaces reserved for this service without paying will attract a fine of AED 1,000.”

Note: The reservation part of the app only works for users on Android devices. iOS users will be able to reserve their spaces in the coming days.
